And let there be light! After doing some wire splicing to criss-cross the 2 black/red wires from the blue and black connectors, my 3rd brake light is working! woohoo! Next stop...dealership to program the car to let it know of the aero wing!

Anyone recall what year Porsche went from ducktail to ducktail+spoiler?

Well I was wrong. My third brake light wouldn't work until after I went to the dealer. Looks good.

Kind of a disappointing trip to the dealership today...Went there to finally have them program the car so it knows the vehicle is now equipped with XAA - Aerokit Cup. I even saw it on the computer from the mechanic who was using PIWIS 3.
When i left and proceeded with testing out to make sure I don't get the spoiler loss error message again, it happened again.

Anyone can think of anything else?

I didn't have 7.2 done since i didn't install the new control unit for the sunroof. It basically controls how much the sunroof will open with the new wing. I don't need it since i never open the sunroof.
I asked the mechanic to do the rest. So, he should have done 7.3 -> 7.6
When i went back to the dealership to show the picture of the "Spoiler Loss" error, he plugged in his computer to my OBDCII port and launched PIWIS 3 (not PIWIS 2 since they upgraded).
It clearly showed the car now knows XAA - Aerokit Cup. Didn't know what else to do now. sigh...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If I understand the q... they are different and were offered concurrently. Having said that, neither are avail at this time for 99.2.

So my dealer is trying to code my car for the third brake light and told me that they can't do it. He said I need to install the sunroof module and maybe criss cross some wires. My car production date is November 2012 so I don't know if he knows what he's talking about. Can anyone help? Can you code the car for the third brake light without installing the sunroof module?

Sounds like he doesn't know what he is talking about. Check another dealer.

No need for the module. Find the hot to the lower brake light. Not the one in the spoiler that activates once it's lifted. Splice into the after deactivation by the dealer. Done.

So they finally got everything in working order. Took them more than 4 hours to remove everything from spoiler to driver seat to realize that previous shop had tampered with the wires under the seat for an non-oem spoiler. Initially they were going to charge me $195 but after all that work they charged me $550 which I thought was fair given the fact that things were a lot more complicated than I thought. They did give me the option of putting everything back and take it to someone else to do it. Since they had done so much work already I asked they to complete it. Glad everything is in order now.

Interesting read...
Recently had a Techart type II wing installed.
Thought I'd help the tech out myself as I had some experience with same wing install on a previous 991... plus this dealer didn't seem to have too much experience with it, but decided to go ahed as the 3 previous dealer I went to had almost no experience with fixed wing installs (thought that was strange).
As a result I thought I'd double check the brake light (in the wing) was functional, low and behold... it wasn't.

Now I realize that the wing install on the previous 991 probably also did not work.
I just never checked because those guys were champs at custom work.
Soooo now I'm also driving around with a non functioning wing brake light (and actually know it this time, sigh).

Not sure I'm up to doing the whole removal of seats and re-wiring at this time.
For now I think I'll just leave it be.
It does look good though... as long as no-one in-the-know is behind me when I'm breaking ;-)

After this ordeal, I highly recommend folks with aftermarket fixed spoiler to get the two harnesses that comes with the OEM sport design duck tail. The first is a wire harness for the mounting bracket 991.612.884.00 (coupe) or 991.612.884.50 (cab). And the second is a wire harness for additional brake light 991.612.885.00 (this jus extends the brake light cable to reach the light position).

So during the install, after you remove the OEM spoiler motor and disconnect the harness from the car. You plug in the appropriate mounting bracket harness above to the car, then plug the additional brake light harness and route it to the fixed wing 3rd brake light, and you're all set. Just take it to the dealer and tell them to program as if the car had an OEM sport design spoiler install. That way no need to mess around with any of the wires.

I think what the shops have been doing is that when they install a non OEM fixed spoiler, they reuse the harness that was originally used for the OEM motorized spoiler, and they tap the 3rd brake light for the new fixed wing. Well if you do that and when the spoiler is down, the brake light doesn't work. Hence the need to switch wires to fool the car into thinking otherwise. Two to three owners laters and no one knows what had been done.
