It's nothing like, "just pop in a DVD and it will update the map"-thing.
You have to go to your Porsche Dealer and they make the magic happen for about $300 to $400.
The map will be coded to your VINE-number.
I was thinking about getting an update myself but 380€ is too much for that "feature" IMHO.
If there is a cheaper way I might be interested as well.
There's almost zero reason to have in-car navigation these days. Maps are always out of date, the UI is usually a hot mess, poor traffic support when it even exists... hard pass. OP has an iPhone, so ACP should be an option assuming the PCM3.1v2+ supports it.

You get the shop disks and the license key. Only the dealer can activate the license key to make the new maps usable.
Taking it to the dealer next week for install.
I would be interested in an update after your new map installation. After reading your posts detailing your 2019 map upgrade process I decided against it. It sounds like this 2021 update may be more straightforward than 2019 update.
Jim
The update is the same...disks and a license key. It's just that now my mechanic knows how to do it.
Does the dealership provide the map update discs and you just purchase the license key? Didn’t you have to install V4.52 then reinstall V4.76 after the maps were loaded? IIRC it was a long and expensive process at the dealership. I asked my dealership and they discouraged me as they did not seem to understand the 2019 map upgrade and thought it could cost up to $600 labor charge plus the license key.
Jim
I ordered the discs and license key as a package through Suncoast at the link above.
Dealer then loads the discs and then uses PIWIS to activate the maps using the license key.
The software version latest that I know is 4.76 and it should update with the maps. They only charge me an hour or two of labor. Sounds like they don't want to be bothered.
I dropped at my dealership today - my PCM is version 4.76. They could not get the install of the maps to work and are working with Porsche's internal tech support. Did anybody figure out if they need to first downgrade to an earlier PCM version?

No downgrade needed. The map update three years ago was compatible with 4.76. Do they have the shop tool discs that load the maps (997-044-993-60)? They have to load the DVDs and then unlock the data with a license key. The license key is 997-044-909-91. It comes in a package that looks like a DVD, but when you open it, there is no DVD, but instead, a license key that they activate with PIWIS.
Once they are done, push SOURCE and INFO at the same time. This will bring up a screen that shows your Software Version. Verify it is 4.76. Then, push the HISTORY button and scroll down. You should see the map update "NA......." with today's date (or the date it was installed. NA stands for North America.
I already have version 4.76 that I loaded from an ISO on the rennlist forum. As an experiment, I tried to load the 2021 maps myself even though everybody said you can't. I was hoping all the data would load and then they'd just have to add my vin number using PIWIS (and I'd get charged less time). The map update failed for me on disk one though - I think it failed before it started. It's apparently failing for them too, but I'm not sure what process they are following.
We will see what happens. I'm all ears if anybody has a guess on what the issue is.
