Reposting my step-by-step from the 981 Forum:

Thought I’d write a step-by-step for people new to PIWIS or for those wanting their indys to take a crack at coding the new steering calibration. Disclaimer: I did see that someone was able to code the calibration in aftersales mode but this is just how I did it personally:

1. Switch to engineering mode. This video shows how to do this at 7:40 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...ture=emb_title)
2. Press “Overview”. This should pull up a list of all the modules in your car.
3. Highlight the EPS module and press “Codierung Anpassungen”
4. Highlight “Manuelle Codierung ohne MCR Regeln (Entwicklung)” then “Next”
5. Highlight “Kodierwert: Codierung Fahrzeugklassen” then “Next”
6. Select “GT3” in the dropdown menu then press “Schreiben” to code in the new calibration
7. I personally exited all the way out and then back into the steering calibration menu to make sure the coding still read “GT3” but obviously this is optional

ADDITIONAL STEPS NEEDED FOR 991.1 CODING:

1. Back to “Overview”
2. Highlight “Kombiinstrument” then press “Codierung Anpassungen”
3. Highlight “Manuelle Codierung ohne MCR Regeln (Entwicklung)” then “Next”
4. Highlight “Warnungskonfiguration: Warnungen EPS Lenkhilfe Ausfallwarnung (120)” & “Warnungskonfiguration: Warnungen EPS Lenkhilfe Fehlerwarnung (121)” then “Next”
5. Use dropdown menu and change both to “nicht aktiv” and then press “Schreiben”

so took the 991 out to AZ88 with the GT3 file set and pushed it today. (for those who don't know this is a winding mountain road with no guardrails and 100+ ft drops)

the steering was great. i had complete confidence and it was a lot lighter and more fun than then last time I drove the road.

i really hope we can get some others to try this and report back with more technical feedback.

from earlier today:

Nice developments here! I will try this later today and report back as soon as I have time to test it.

Update on my side, still working on getting my hands on something that can update the firmware. I'm not keen on turning off the warning light and calling it good. My gut tells me the steering code is stored on the EPS module itself, and flipping the GT3 flag via the tool and getting a warning means it has defaulted to some fallback mode. Would love to see a >= 2014 991 do this, without getting a warning as the next step.

My offer stands, anyone in the Tristate with a 2014 or newer 991 want to give it a try? Takes just a couple of minutes.

I understand your concerns about default mode and that's why I did the test with the C4/S file checked. With C4/S set the steering felt very much like the C2/S one but it had the warning. Definitely not proof but more evidence that it's not just going into default mode.

Last week I hooked up my PIWIS to a 2016 Spyder. There were additional calibrations for the 981 Spyder, 981 GT4 and 991.1 GT3RS that did not show up as options when I had my 2014 Cayman S hooked up. The modules must come preloaded with whatever calibrations are available at the time the car is produced in the factory.

Has anyone else had the chance to play with their EPS settings?

First of all thank you so much for sharing this and the PTV activation with everyone. I sent this to my local Indy shop who was very interested. They hooked up their PIWIS to their own 05/13 production 991.1 C2. Gt3 was one of the options, they tried it and it worked. So I brought my own car in a 05/13 production 991.1 C2 only 135 cars earlier than the one they tested by vin. However my car had no option for GT3 on PIWIS. Steering is basically one of my biggest complaints about this car and platform especially the force change with load. It really seemed like the GT3 steering completely fixes this. Maybe there is a solution to this? oh well.

I think someone is looking into replacing the EPS module itself with a later version. It seems like the calibrations are already stored in the modules themselves and PIWIS simply toggles between the settings instead of writing entirely new code.

I suspect you'd need to replace your entire steering rack with a newer version unfortunately.

I have a 12/2012 991.1 build and I have the option for GT3, but it gives an error when I toggle the option. Did yours just not even display the option?

The shop told me that when they scanned their shop car they could see all the options. However when they tried mine there was only c2 and c4 with the rest saying reserved. I pulled the build sheets for the vins and my car has a date of 2013-05-01 and their car has a date of 2013-05-23 which is strange because they are so close. Both are PDK and are optioned almost identically with very few differences. Neither car has PASM, SC, PTV or any other real hardware changes. The differences are my car has the premium package and theirs has power steering plus and an XM tuner. Otherwise they are the same. The Indy shop has a PIWIS 3 but not a PIWIS 2. I'll order one tonight and report back once it arrives.

Do you know if they got the error the rest of us see?

I would suspect maybe their has later model steering software?

very interesting..
could it be that Power steering Plus (assist variability) is a pre-requisite to un-lock other calibration options??
