I have a manual but apparently they can not sue Porsche for letting me crater the gas mileage by running at high RPMs. Maybe if the upshift meter were improperly calibrated that would be different. Only in the USA!

I’m sure this is a CARB requirement so I’m not optimistic it won’t be required with next years renewal.
CA 991.1 here, registered earlier this year and, no, no proof of recall required. Re-registered online, with Star smog done by a smog shop. I don't think the DMV has a way to tap into recall databases.

18 AUG '22 had SMOG completed at the dealer upon new engine install/pickup, and I declined the AMCO bulletin. Tags on the way, so no problems.

Has anyone successfully rolled back the AMC0 bulletin? The dealer I dropped my car to updated it without my consent while it was in there for service.

My dealer did the same thing to mine and I was pissed but after thinking about it I VERY rarely ever drive in sport plus mode so it's really a moot point in my case. My car is still just as quick as it was before the update and still has burbles when on it hard in sport mode so don't sweat it. Drive it and enjoy it and don't let some armchair jockey mechanic try to tell you that you lost 20 HP and that you "nuttered" your car.

I love the new PDK mapping as the Sport+ now is what Sport should have always been. Have you driven in Sport+ on a great curvy road after the update? If not, you might be very happy on the mapping and have no desire to roll the update back.

I use sport plus more after the update than I ever did. Much more usable on the street and back roads (which equals more fun).

"roll back" isn't possible once completed.....from what I'm told.

I think the whole "performance reduction" thought was totally blown out of proportion from the start to be honest.

I agree.

There were one of two RL who were going to do before and after dynos, but never heard back from them so assume it was never done.

Angry 2016 Porsche 981 AMCO Recall - re-program DME/TCU unit

To all those that wondered - I'm in Calif and had this done by Rector Motor in Burlingame. I only did it to avoid issues with the Calif Smog Certification. I've got over 83K+ miles (daily drive) and no track time. I wish I didn't have to have it done. The engine sounds like a vacuum cleaner and the Sport Exhaust is muted when you let off the accelerator at speed - doesn't matter if it's in Sport, Sport+. When I bought the 981 back in Jun 2016 my son says it was loud going down the street - and that's with-in the speed limit. I liked that - that's why I paid for the option. Now it sounds like any other Camry. i really have to punch the throttle thru 5K to hear anything..

Aside from the sound there IS some performance lost - acceleration is not as quick and the down shifts is slower and not as sharp. On the bright side I suppose the rear tires will wear a little longer and maybe the PDK clutches will last longer too. After the re-programming the PCM was reset - lost all my settings - no biggee - just had to reset it.

Hi Folks! Has anyone confirmed that a COBB tune for PDK and ECU overwrites this update (or any update) and all is “restored” for those who desire max “aggression”? My 991.1 GTS was in this past week for new shoes. I declined this AMC0 update. Dealer reiterated it wasn’t done even afterwards and I called just now to confirm again. But something is “off” now.

I drove around a lot more today (100+ mixed miles) since my return home from the dealer (which I was on a phone call so I was driving calm). I have the AWE switchpath and notice in normal mode it sounds different with PSE off. And with PSE off it would normally still start to open up around 3K and by 5K it would be close to the volume of PSE on. Now it stays muted as if opening is no longer tied to RPMs.

In sport mode (PSE on) I could at 4000-4500 have this amazing sustained hollow going. Closer to an F1 sound and then screaming from there. That hollow is gone and maybe I’m paranoid but feel as if the cracking on pedal lift is more muted.

Seems odd. Especially when they’re telling me nothing on ECU and TCU was done. I usually only drive in manual mode with sport on except cruising on the highway I’ll go auto and turn off PSE. I only use Sport+ on the track and still manual shifts. Could there have been a “relearn” after new tires that somehow effectives things?. - sorry. I’m going a bit off track now. So puzzled though on why.
