Default Porsche DME and Transmission control reprogram "AMC0" (To address Stop Sale)

I just had mine done today. Some initial impression and observations.

No difference that I can tell in manual mode. In Automatic PDK+ will shift to higher gear prior to redline if speed is kept constant for example if you shift manually into third on the highway at 80 mph, it will hold third for several seconds and then flip gear by gear to 6th gear. It will also much more aggressively shift down when given gas and if driving in the 6th gear at similar highway speeds, with just a little gas will downshift to 4th (or 3rd) gear for quick acceleration.

If driving at constant 45 mph Sport+ will hold 3rd gear whereas Sport will hold 5th gear.

My initial thoughts are that I really like the way Sport+ now works. It is actually fully usable in street driving and while I did not have an opportunity to do any spirited driving this might be great for it making the Sport+ a Spirited Sport mode that will keep higher gears than Sport that I always find upshifting way too early and thus end up driving in fully manual mode almost always and absolutely 100% of the time when on backroads hugging curves (I do not track).

I have always thought Normal should be called Eco, Sport should have been called Normal and it sounds like the reprogrammed Sport + is a true Sport mode.

This is the “fix” by Porsche to end the Stop Sale due to emissions issue with PDK Sport Chrono cars.

Ah, got it. Didn’t recognize the official name of the recall. Good to hear no negative performance after the “fix”.

so it sounds like it's just a change for people who insist on street driving in sport+ ?

Great post. Nice to hear about experience rather than speculation.

This doesn't sound terrible at all now. Any time I was street driving in +, I was using manual mode regardless.

Thanks for this. Good information! As more people start to do the "fix" looking forward to more real world opinions.

I had a 991.1 and traded it for a 991.2 back in March. Both Sport Chrono. The description in the original post of the revised driving experience in Sport+ is similar to mine after switching from a 991.1 to a 991.2. It’s a good change for the 991.1 sport Chrono cars. Appears Porsche might be simply changing the programming for the 991.1 to what they introduced for the 991.2 in 2017.

Enjoy!

UPDATE/FOLLOW-UP:

i just drove my friends 991.2 Turbo cab and the PDK in Sports Plus in the 991.1 seems to shift exactly like the 991.2 with the exception of not being able to shift up to the 7th gear. I do like the new Sport+ after having driven a little more with it on. Maybe not the best for putsing around town, but ir will be great on spirited backroad drives based on my initial impressions. Much more usable than before the update.

This is what I expected the change to be, making the 991.1 Sport+ performance/action similar to that of the 991.2 Sport+ mode.

Glad to hear that you are happy with it.

Has anyone else done theirs yet? Would love to hear any impressions and experiences from other early adopters. I am surprised how few comments there has been about this "fix" anywhere it was a burning hot topic when no one know what would the resolution would be.

I just got my car back yesterday and they did the update. I didn't get a chance to test anything out (I was on the phone with my boss on the way home from the dealership), but plan on doing some North Georgia driving this weekend where I usually drive in Sport+. I will report back on Sunday!

Most are probably sitting back to assess before they decide whether they want the update or not, I imagine, so thanks for your post. I am not going to get it until I have more info and I am taking the car to the dealer for another reason. That is the point when I have to say “Yes” or “No”. Disappointed in Porsche for lack of technical explanation to dealers and customers concerning this recall.
