as much as i love my 991.1S, i'd be all over a 992S (or even better imho, a 992 Turbo S) in a heartbeat if the out of pocket money wasn't so huge. i won't finance any of my toys or hobbies so if the loot isn't laying around doing nothing, a 992S or Turbo S isn't doable for me. maybe a used one down the road someday?? but not now or anytime soon. have only driven each once (briefly) but that was enough for me. love almost everything about them including all the things many here seem to hate =) (power/comfort/tech/interior/exterior/feel/sound...everyhting!). fantastic car in my eyes

disclaimer....i don't track or mod my car. just a regular old joe who enjoys a fun daily drivers when the roads and temps are agreeable. obviously many of you are in a different boat. enjoy whatever floats yours

cheers

I didn't drive a 992 but investigate quite a lot. looks too big for me ( I am sometimes saying even my 991 is to big for a Porsche ) but 992 is way bigger than my expectation for a Porsche. So I would go a 991.2 in every way or maybe some 991 turbo

I would. IMHO 991.2<992<991.1

For me (subjective) i prefer NA power delivery and sound...

Drive them all, see what YOU like.

Back in the 90's: "the 993 is the last air cooled, the 996 sucks!"
Back in the the late 2010's "the 991 is the last NA analog 911, the 992 sucks"
In a few years from now: "The 992 is the last true ICE 911, the 99x hybrid with a 4-banger is an abomination!"
In a decade from now: "The 99x hybrid is the last true hybrid, the 911 electric sounds like a lady shaver"

We all going to die and Porsche needs to cater to the new generation, future buyers are looking for touch screens and apps, self driving, quiet and efficient cars with virtually zero maintenance.

The change you are considering is somewhat different. the 991.2 is a closer relative to the 992 and the GTS is a step up. I would think your decision is harder and you will have to drive both. Build quality may be a case by case basis.

Thanks 991.1 guy. I have the 991.2 targa now since 2017 and I am on wait list for a gts targa 992 so I’m not sure what to do if or when my number comes up. From reading these forums the 992 is not a fan favorite but it would be a GTS so maybe that would push me to change ?

I agree with prior recommendations here to drive a 992 for an extended period and then decide as it is such a personal decision. I loved my 991.1S. Great car. But, I was given a chance to drive a 992S for 2 days in Dec. with one of those days on the track. The 992S I drove was superior to my 991.1S in most every category, IMHO. I went through same experience a few years back when I owned 997.2S and drove a 991.1S. But, only you can make that decision.

Agreed, we're just arguing on the internet about this... best thing to really do is drive both. I've been lucky enough to live in Atlanta and have been to the Porsche experience center more times than I care to admit. But, I've been able to drive everything in the lineup, from 991.1, 991.2, 992.... 4s and 2s, gt3, and Turbo S.... Plus Caymens, and Boxters, GTS, GTS 4.0, and the S. It's incredible and honestly is the best way to decide what you like and what you don't. A dealer should let you drive a 992, or a CarMax can bring you one in for a 150 mile, 24 hour test drive if you aren't close enough to a Porsche Experience Center to do what I've done.

The 991 is a great car. The 992 is a great car. You won't go wrong with either one. Good luck!

Default 2 cars I would buy first

Would be the new lotus and then a used GT3. The 992 interior left me cold even though the speed is mind bending. Do you like to go fast though? If a car is more of an appliance to you with a specific purpose then the 992 might be the best call but it did not tug on my heart strings.

For me the 992 is ugly so I have no interest. Tracked one, launched one several times, amazing car and probably better than my 991 in every way (except looks imo). Even if I liked the design it would come down to considering if the $65K was worth it. Over the next 5 years that $65K is going to be 2x what it is today as the markets rebound so is it worth $65K today and potentially $130K over the next 5 years. For me, no way. Does nothing to stir my soul...

Default Suitable TRade

To me this would be a suitable trade...

They have knocked it out of the park with this vehicle. Toyota drivetrain (no no porsche tax) and the motor makes a glorious howl. The 992 evokes 0 emotion for me in comparison.

I did drive the 992 but am not sure how I feel about the interior, sound, or overall feel of the car.

Anyone here been in a similar place? Always curious on other experiences.
Sounds like you're just bored but still love your 991. Pass.

For anyone else who finds this thread...

I just sold my 992 and went back to a 991.2. Why?

1) 992's refinement took too much of the edge off.
2) The dash. I like the tach, but the rest of it being flat detracts for me.
3) The pcm (I use carplay anyway) and the lack of hard-buttons for a garage door opener.
4) The stupid #@%@%^@$ exterior door handles. Holy hell - Just. Give. Me. A. Door. Handle.
5) I upgraded in the process - I went from a 992 C2S to a 991.2 Turbo (this being my 6th 911)
6) Over time, I thought the spoiler of the 992 S would grow on me. Nope. It didn't. Aerokit would be the way to go on a 992.

To give some context, I put 7,000 miles on my 992 in all different forms of driving.
