The decision comes down to personal taste... period. Buy the 992 and keep the 991.1 for a year and see which one you prefer. Given the price of pre-owned Porsche 911, I would expect the price continue to climb and you could sell the one that doesn’t float your boat.

Problem solved!

They have knocked it out of the park with this vehicle. Toyota drivetrain (no no porsche tax) and the motor makes a glorious howl. The 992 evokes 0 emotion for me in comparison.
The Emira is extremely interesting. If I didn't have kids and a need for the back seat, I'd be very tempted. Here in Canada, the Emira is 120k loaded. I could just about trade my 10-year-old 911 straight across.

The recent reviews for the Emira have not been great. Just saying.

The leap from a 991.1 to a 992 is significant. I have driven both extensively. The 992 being turbocharged has much more low end torque. Also the PCM has a much more modern feel. Personally I like the interior of the 991 better. I don’t really need all the fancy graphics and such.

I've only watched one review on the Emira so far, but it was overwhelmingly positive. That said, I'd never base my own opinion on anything other than seat time.

I have a GV80 3.5T Prestige as my daily driver, so I've already got a luxurious, tech-heavy, quiet vehicle for when the need arises.

Ultimately, I know that for me, I'd absolutely consider a 992 if and when they offer an NA engine in a non-GT car, but I doubt that will happen.

Unfortunately I don’t think Porsche will ever make another NA non GT product. I heard yesterday that they are developing an all electric GT4

Default 991.1 > 718 ?

2019 leftover new 991.2 C4S, my final 911. It's scaled correctly, uses better interior materials, not as fast as 992, but I can control everything with buttons, as opposed to screens. It also has zero rattles.

I hope they got the 992 screwed together better, and have worked through the recalls; software updates. All I know is, my 991.2 is a sports car that brings a smile to my face each time i drive it. And if I had the garage space, I'd add a 2007 997 and a 1996 993 if I could. Also great 911's for different reasons. But the 992; it's a 2 door Panamera in my opinion. just not for me.
you might be the perfect guy to ask this very dangerous question: I have a 2017 718 that I can trade in for a 2014 991.1 (both PDK)and it will cost me an additional $35,000. Both cars have about 20,000 miles on them. My 718 is out of warranty, the 911.1 is a CPO and will have two years warranty. I love my 718 Boxter, but I recently drove the 99 1.1 and really enjoyed it, and now finally realize what everyone says about the sound. My 718, however, is a bit more peppy and is fun to drive. So I’m torn if the 991.1 is worth the $35k premium. Any feedback? Many thanks.

I'll answer this from a value perspective, as this is how I am interpreting your question. Value is the price of your next best alternative, which in this case would be: buying an extended warrantee from a reputable company, and subtract that cost from the $35,000 difference. Now you have brought your Cayman to the same level as the CPO 911.1

Whatever that figure, the question becomes, what else could I do with the remaining $30,000 plus? What if your 718 could sound like a 991.1 or come close to it? you could invest in an exhaust system, and still be ahead $30,000. I other words, you have many more alternatives. How much more pleasure would the 911 be now, over your 718? ( I assume you included the tax in the trade difference).

Hope this helps you decide. Good luck.

I'm sure the 992 is super nice, but upgrading these cars is becoming like upgrading iPhones. Every generation change used to be a big deal, but it's no longer true. Once the initial excitement wears off, you'd probably find that the new car is better at some level, but not worth the extra money and trouble to upgrade. Unless you have a compelling reason to upgrade and/or don't like the car you have, keep it and put the $ in the bank. I also think the 991 looks better. Just my opinion.

Sounds like you have your answer. Based on reading your post, I am not quite sure I understand why you are really even considering a 911 when you seem very happy with the 718. I wouldn't be concerned about what "everyone says" about anything and just enjoy your car and your driving (it sounds like you do).

Good advice, can always use some of that delta for additional warranty, self insure, make modifications, track days or spend it on anything else.

I would spend the least amount of money that will bring you driving joy.

There will always be a newer 911. Always.

A lot of guys traded in their 993's for the 996.

1) 992's refinement took too much of the edge off.
2) The dash. I like the tach, but the rest of it being flat detracts for me.
3) The pcm (I use carplay anyway) and the lack of hard-buttons for a garage door opener.
4) The stupid #@%@%^@$ exterior door handles. Holy hell - Just. Give. Me. A. Door. Handle.
5) I upgraded in the process - I went from a 992 C2S to a 991.2 Turbo (this being my 6th 911)
6) Over time, I thought the spoiler of the 992 S would grow on me. Nope. It didn't. Aerokit would be the way to go on a 992.

To give some context, I put 7,000 miles on my 992 in all different forms of driving.
What the hell are 3 and 4 about? Please elaborate. Are you saying the garage door buttons are on screen buttons only???? If that's true WTF?
