This little car upgrade mis-adventure all started when I test drove the Ferrari Roma, and claimed it the best car I had ever driven. And it was. HOWEVER - I've not driven any modern sports car and they have all evolved. It wasn't that the Ferrari was all that special with magic Italian engineering it's that it was new and high tech. I mistakenly thought you had to buy Ferrari to get that goodness but the 992, set up like the one I just bought, is even better. It has dance moves that Ferrari Roma / Portofino can't accomplish It's just as quick - 992 "S" have the same spec acceleration-wise as the Roma and is it actually faster than the Portofino. Handling is mind-blowing with the PASM/PDCC/Rear Wheel Steering/Sport Chrono in Sport Plus,. I used to be skeptical of all those high cost performance add-ons playing around on the configurators, but I'm not skeptical any more. Those things WORK. The problem was I measuring everything to my 991.1 as a benchmark and that was a mistake All these sports car makers have moved the goalposts and I've been driving an obsolete sports car. One of my pals said "Before you pull the trigger on a Ferrari - you have to drive a 992". He actually found this new one for me and sent me an email on it - he was right. Here's something else I learned today - when you order Rear Wheel Steering on a 992, it comes with the LiFePO4 Porsche Lithium battery that weighs 13 lb. and sells for $ 1,700 so that now means checking that option box on Rear Wheel Steering is a no-brainer.

When I came into work today in it, there is a long stretch of US Hwy 1 that is a 55 mph zone, with a one mile visibility down the hill. Some guy in a Nissan Z thangie was challenging to a run. Uh-huh - sure buddy, OK let's open up this 992! I was up to 121 mph in 3rd gear in no time at all and when I saw that number pop up in the speedo and immediately shut the car down, that's way too fast on a public road and boy did it get there in a blink. This car is lose-your-license fast and I think would exceed my capability in a track environment to run 10/10ths consistently and I've been an HPDE Instructor since 1995. I cannot imagine what kind of performance weapon the 992 GT3 will be when it rolls out and that's going to be a young man's car with lightning reflexes..
This 992 is so crisp in all aspects. How would I compare it to my 2014 991.1 S? Two ways :
1) You've been sawing at that steak with a plastic knife and it cuts, but you have to work at it going back and forth.. Then someone just handed you the sharpest metal knife you have ever used and in half a stroke it cleaved that steak right through.
2) You just replaced your 8 year old computer with the latest, greatest, maxed-out chip set and Radeon graphics card and sit there stunned at the performance.
The only negatives on the car so far - my garage door openers are too old (Chamberlain Liftmasters built in 2000) , the Homelink Interface won't operate them! Small price to pay.
I love the car. . Bought a few shares of Apple stock ten years ago and just let it ride. Thanks for the Porsche, Apple! (and Apple just announced they will build their own new electric car for 2024 using their own battery technology, sending the stock up even higher today). This is my 6th 911 buy in 42 years, guess I'm hooked on the brand.

Awesome. Man those are crazy Ferrari costs. Obscene.
I have a 2013 C2S MT with all the performance options. I should drive a 992 soon. I’ll likely skip the Ferrari. I too bought Apple in 2004. It’s up 7500+ %. Never sold a share either. Still haven’t. Btw I have done the same thing with tsla. I Bought 2019 have not sold a share and will not for 10 years.
In was going to look at a 991.2 TT this weekend. Maybe I’ll test a 992 as well.
thanks for your thoughts. I appreciate it.

Congratulations!
it sounds like it drives as well as it looks... maybe I should give it a try as well (or absolutely not, 'cause it seems like all triers become buyers 😀

That's the problem with test drives....you get back in your old hooptie and ....well.....the love can be gone, then.

Yes, I was just reading two days ago about an owner on F-Chat who has a 2014 FF and the electric water pump when out. $ 6,000 for the part and $ 14,000 to install it (engine out) was his quote from the Ferrari dealer. And the thread then went to independents and how he could probably get it for $ 10,000 using a used water pump ($ 3,000) and $ 7,000 for the labor. For a water pump. Ferrari 599 shocks last 20K miles then start leaking. They are $ 10,000 to replace. Just a regular battery for a Portofino is $ 600 and you get flak from the dealer if its not one of the two approved Ferrari brand units, and they are so weak you have to tender them if not driving the car daily. I can't do that. When you guys complain about Porsche repair prices, you have no idea what its like to own a real exotic. At least Porsche is reasonable and you can actually get the parts in a few days in most cases.

@drcollie I sat in that exact car two weeks ago when it was on the showroom floor in front of Christian’s desk. (He sold me my first Porsche later that day - a Night Blue 992 C4S they had on the lot.)
That Cab was absolutely gorgeous. I’m glad it found a good home. Congrats!
