1970 911E
1973 911T Targa
1996 993 C4S
2007 Boxster S (Design Edition 2)
2014 991.1 S Cab
2021 992 S Cab
There were gaps in there with Corvettes, BMW's and an Aston Martin, but I always come back to Porsche. That first one was very, very light. The '70 911E weighed 2.249 lb and had a measly 155 hp, but that weight made it light on its feet so it could take on a 300 hp Corvette of that same era and win in a road race. But that car had no A/C, no electric seats, a joke of a radio, no airbags, no crash structure, crank windows, not hardly a piece of noise insulation in the car. It was primitive and a real rust bucket, that was back before they even zinc-dipped the cars.. And it was also ill-behaved and didn't stop all that well. If you didn't respect that car and drove it poorly, you would wind up ****-in first into the guardrail faster than you can say "what just happened?" As time moved on and safety and emissions laws were added, the cars gained weight, Also, customers wanted more - Air Conditioning, Power Seats, Power Windows, a heater than worked, better radios, etc. More weight means more power needed as well. So they get bigger and heavier to accommodate all that. It's not a bad thing though, that 992 C4S would run circles around those '70 eras cars. And then, that 2008 Boxster S would destroy the 993 from 1996. And so on and so on. The latest generations of Porsches are so easy to drive it takes no special talent, you can drive them like a BMW or a Toyota and they no longer bite you back. The new 992 is even more capable than the prior 991's and they have managed to REDUCE the weight for the first time in the 911 series while still giving you more of everything.
I get in those old Porsches now and they are small and cramped to me, noisy, slow and very much feel vintage. Same thing with old motorcycles I restore, I never keep them because they ride crappy!. But I'm more a track rat - not a drifter. A track rat wants to set down the fastest, most consistent time lap after lap and to do it smoothly with little drama and the newest cars do that. A Drifter is enjoying smoking tires, lots of noise and flash, and demonstrating his car. The raw car feels better to them and they should get a AC 427 Cobra Replica - are those things make any old Porsche seem luxurious....and so hot inside if you can drive one for more two hours without your thighs catching fire you're hard core.
Of course, the best Porsche is the one they haven't made yet. And so it goes..

Do it. Talk to Josh Jones the General Sales Manager (Joshua.jones@porschebethesda.com) or Christian Arostegui (christian.arostegui@porschebethesda.com).

Congrats on the new Porsche drcollie. She is beautiful. I too have been on the fence about getting a Ferrari. I have wanted one since I was a little kid ie book report on the 512BB as my dream car in the 3rd grade. I feel like it will bug me forever if I never own a Ferrari even though it is logically a stupid decision after Porsche ownership. Looking at late model F12 or possibly early 812 to sit beside my 991.1 GTS with a manual tranny. I wish someone would talk me off the ledge as I think the new 992 GT3 or GTS in 2022 will be amazing cars with arguably better technology.

Close your eyes and imagine that your adult self is sitting in a room with your 3rd grade self.
Now talk to your 3rd grade self and tell him “I hear you and I care about you, but maintenance on a Ferrari is insane. What you really want is a 992 GT3.”

Congratulations, thanks for sharing the progress and your decision. I guess this means you’ll be moving to the 992 forum where they’ll no doubt be thankful for your experience. One question, where did the 992 reduce weight? Everything I read and heard was that the car got bigger and heavier.

Yes, definitely over to the 992 forum, but I will swing by 991 once in awhile as I always pulled my own wrenches on mine and maybe can assist someone in a mechanical question. The 992 is 5% lighter overall - Savage Geese does the best technical reviews on cars, but this one is long. If you just want to hear and see the charts on weight reduction, it starts at 5:45 in the video. Most of the weight reduction is due to the extended use of aluminum in the built, in areas where the 991 had steel.
Might as well call the 992 MT a Carrera T 2.0 🤪

Congrats! I am with you on the transmission choice as aside from 992 PDK shifter looks given a choice I'd always go MT. No such luck in my turbo.. but all my gts and c2s were MT. And I started to warm-up towards 992
