I created this thread with poll to document PDK failures requiring transmission replacements.

https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1226...ailure-my.html

87.5% so far have been in 991.1.

Good effort Jack but it does nothing to quantify numbers or compare to MT failures. Keep in mind not every Porsche owner is on this forum. Maybe a new poll requesting more details specifically on the 991.1 prone failure years would be useful and add a section for MT replacements as well.

I am in the same boat with my 2017 GTS. Just had the above repair. Not confident it won’t happen again in the next 5k miles and when my warranty drops that repair would be half the price of a Fidelity warranty.

10 years or 100k miles - whichever comes first. Car only has around 6k miles now so I’ve got about 94k miles remaining but given this is not my daily driver, I’m not worried so much about the mileage. I’m figuring 5-10k miles / year max.

I would like to know if Fidelity would cover PDK repairs both mechanical and electrical?

I do know that Fidelity might even repair your car with used parts, What's everyone's thoughts on that?

What you have stated is correct. Thread was not created to compare manual to PDK failures. Hence PDK transmission failure in title. Agreed, not every Porsche owner is on this forum, so what is your point? You can create another poll if you want to, asking whatever question you want answered.

The point is that you responded to a MT comparison that I posted and I am letting you know what I think of your poll and how it does not apply to the conversation.

I bought a 6yr. / 60k mile Platinum Fidelity for my old 997.2TTS.....Used it once with Hennessey Porsche...Worked great...Seat fix. $1650.00 bill and I paid my $250 Deductible plus Tax.

I've been debating on a warranty for my now 991.2TTS.....Problem is, nobody here is talking about the risk of buying a warranty if you have aftermarket parts / tune. My car came with an exhaust and a tune (Done by a Porsche Dealer in Houston TX). So, Do I gamble on a Platinum Fidelity with mods??

My Dealer (Hennessey) seems to work well with Fidelity. So I need to decide if I should just save the $5+K and add a bit to each year and Self Insure, or gamble on the warranty again.

Knock on wood, I have not had to use my extended warranty (and hope never do actually). Has anyone purchased and had to use Patriot warranty? How was it, and were they responsive and quick to pay? Looking for feedback and what I may expect.

My 997 was a CPO car, so the warranty was included. My 991 was not a CPO car, and I thought about an aftermarket warranty when I bought the 991 last August.

Ultimately I decided not to buy the extended warranty based on the repair experience with my 997. FWIW, here's my analysis...

Of course YMMV, but wanted to share how I thought about the question.

Good analysis CPMorey, but I don't think many buy the extended warranty thinking of covering say a water pump or radiator that might break. In my case, I'm covering the chance that the PDK might have a faulty sensor issue, and then Porsche says to replace the transmission rather than fix it. That's a $15K hit, that even if in the five years nothing happens, I would have spent $3500 towards nothing, but really it was a $11500 insurance of sorts never paid.
Also, warranty companies are in the business to make money. They know what they are doing when they charge a certain amount for the warranty. They know they won't pay out for most, so the ones that have nothing happen pay for few that something does happen.

I have had 2 extended warranty contracts since 2001. Although both cars couldnt be any different in terms of reliability, even the less known warranties turned out to be Well worth the initial investment.

First was a warranty contract purchased in 2004 for my C5 Audi A6 (3.0). Absolutely the least reliable car I have ever purchased, wife always loved the C5 in Red and thats how we wound up picking the 3.0 engine (big mistake).
The initial $4400 5 year contract paid out $13850 in dozens of claims until the warranty company declined coverage near the end of contract as total pay out had exceeded the full market value of car (this clause exists in ALL warranty contracts so be aware when buying contracts for older 997s etc)

The second contract (Allstate Extended Warranty) was purchased in 2015 for my wife's Cayenne GTS, one of the most reliable luxury cars I have ever owned, $5400 contract paid out a total of $9800 in claims BUT that number is THAT high because car was exclusively serviced and repaired at the local Porsche dealership. Only 3 warranty items but a single (lower gasket oil leak) cost over $5800.
Just purchased my 3rd ever contract for my 991.1 GTS @24K miles. We are a family that owns and drives our cars for at least 7-10 years, and in this particular scenario warranty contracts are a good deal. I am surrounded by friends/family who recycle cars every 3-5 years and they often come out "behind" when buying warranty contracts.
my .02 cents

No one likes or wants to pay for extended warranty. It is insurance, you hate paying it until something happens, then you hare happy you did.
