Hello and welcome!
I also bought my first 911 this summer and had my share of basic, stupid questions at the beginning and I received warm welcomes, awesome insights, but also some unpleasant comments. Some people feel comfortable looking down on you behind a computer... As said above, it unfortunately seems to be part of the culture however the vast majority of people on this forum are (very) knowledgeable and nice.

Welcome. You're in the right subforum, this time!

Rennlist is uhh... interesting. Lots of absolutes are thrown around here that need to be taken with a grain of salt, as with any forum, but I reckon the nastiness has to do with the primary userbase being crotchety old men who have built their personality around "I own a 911" and look down upon anyone who hasn't owned six of them. Perhaps related, no one with a 15 line signature listing every car they've ever owned or an extensive modification list to their car has posted a welcome in this thread yet. But then if you look at the nasty replies in your other thread, there appears to be a trend...

As has been ruthlessly beaten into you, the 911 is a "driver's car" and as such, NVH is more of a secondary concern than that of a supersedan. Your 5er was a middling point between german luxobarge and german honda civic, so it's a difficult comparison to make.

Previously mentioned but worth parroting as confirmation -- P Zeros suck. Michelins are considerably better. Also, drop your tire pressures to "comfort pressure" levels (30 front 36 rear, or so.. check your handbook); this will add considerable cushiness to your ride. If equipped with PDCC, turn it off for highway drives if you're looking for a more comfortable cruise.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to Porsche. These are great cars with a great tradition and as others have already said, they are meant to be driven, they are not fragile. I have been very fortunate to have driven a lot of different cars and there is nothing like a 911. The more I drive it the more I appreciate it and I have 57,000 miles on mine now. Hopefully, you will feel the same way. It is almost a daily driver for me. It's amazing how many nice people I've met because of my car and if you join PCA you will meet one of the nicest groups around. Everyone is helpful and respectful. I hope you enjoy your Porsche in good health!

Cheers,
Wayne

welcome! since a lot have already mentioned about replacing the tires to the better michelins, i'll just add that in the meantime until you swap (which you should as soon as you can in my opinion), check the tire pressures. Almost all dealers will pump up the tire pressures to the max specs which is ridiculously high. You can search for tire pressure settings for comfort and that alone should help a lot.

in my opinion, most car forums are all pretty similar in terms of types of people. if anything, i think it's just the internet in general. you'll run into loud mouths and a-holes often, but majority of people are actually really nice and helpful. its just the "mean" ones tend to stick out so you notice them talking bs to you. i just ignore them lol

enjoy your new 991.2!

Welcome...and great taste on your GT Silver which is the same color as on my 2017 991.2 which I've owned for about five months. Third Porsche, first 911. I (and much more importantly the wife!) also found the road noise to be an issue. Vehicle came with PZeros with plenty of life remaining. The following helped significantly:
  1. Dropped tire pressures to comfort level. Now running 29/32 cold, 32/35 hot. This made a world of difference by itself.
  2. Ahead of the colder/wetter weather here in Northern Virginia, I got a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE980 AS tires from Tire Rack and had them mounted by Tread Connection (great outfit btw) on the stock 20" wheels. I saved the PZeros and will rotate them back on for late spring/summer driving and then swap back again come fall. The Bridgestones are terrific, quiet, smooth riding, don't pick up gravel and crap and can handle spirited driving just fine. I realize all seasons are heresy here in the Holy Church of Rennlist but I know there are many others here who run them happily.
  3. Disconnect the symposer.
  4. I upgraded parts of my Bose audio system with excellent tweeters.
After these changes, road noise isn't BMW quiet and that wasn't the goal. But now I actually hear the engine music rather than harsh road noise when mashing the throttle.

Oh my, look what was next to your new, silver Porsche. Who did that to that poor Cayenne Coupe? It got pink-bombed.

John: Porsche also want to make the car feel sporty so the dampers are set firmly. If you want to smooth out the ride on the concrete bridges there in Tampa, get a DSC sport suspension module. Best investment.

tires- need Michelin Sport 4S for Tampa rainy days. Consider lower tire pressure to comfort, ie 34-35 front and 36-38 psi when warm. Cold morning Start about 3-4 psi lower

@drcollie beat me to the question about the ghastly pink Cayenne Coupe! That looks awful! Hoping it's just a very temporary wrap.

Welcome, OP & congratulations on your new 911. Drive it in the best of health! There are a few asses (& a few smart asses) on the Forum, but there are a lot of great, helpful people here too. I've had many a question & there's always been some helpful soul to help me out, so keep the questions coming.

+1 Michelins. And Porsches sound the best when the engine is wailing and you can't hear road noise.
BMWs tend to run very quiet, hence why they started pumping artificial engine noise into the cabins after the VW GTI, and they got boring.
Congrats on the car!
