Default how reliable has your high milage 991.2 been?

So I'm posing this question to those of you who own a 991.2 and ideally have had it for a while as a daily driver... looking for owners with more than 50K, or even 100K driven..

curious how reliable (mainly mechanically) has the car been? I know the 911's have historically been reliable cars, but wondering if the newer gen, direct injection / turbo engines have held up as well?

As you already know, the 991 platform has been very stout (morning Joe!). About the only real kryptonite to the 991.2 has been water pumps, and even those seem to fail early in the life cycle, while still under warranty.

haha... Just hoping someone actually drives the crap out of these cars.. seems like most own it as a "Sunday driver" etc.. the milage on most used 991's is in the 20's and lower.

Dont anticipate too many responses since 1) as you mentioned these cars are typically not used as daily drivers thus mileage remains relatively low and 2) the 991.2 generation is only a few years old so someone would need to be averaging ~20k miles annually to be north of 50k at this point

I don't drive mine enough for it to be considered "high mileage." But I do love driving it so much!!!

33K on my 18 ( plus 64 track days) and no issues except for a water pump replacement at 15K. The replacement still looks good with 18K on it.

wow, 64 track days has to be some kind of record...

curious, does anyone know if the water pump issue was addressed with the 2019's and the 2020 992?

For the longest time, it seem like the failures were limited to '17s and early production '18s (no later than Oct/Nov '17). But now I think I have see some later '18s pop up on Rennlist and it wouldn't surprise me to see '19s affected as well over time.

Apparently 992s have also had water pump problems.

(I have an '18 GTS but have not yet had a water pump failure yet.)

seems like this is something that might / should qualify for a extended warranty... I recall my Mercedes E class years ago had issues with the SBC braking that caused them to do a 100,000 warranty extension.

Any of you guys go with an extended warranty for after the 50K period? Worth it?

Sadly not at 50k yet, but I have but 30,000-35,000 miles spread equally between two 991.2 Carreras used as dailies. The first one had a knocking noise come up at 400~ miles that they never could fix (and man did they try...), and some little quality control stuff. Second one has been like my GT4 was over 16,000 miles: effectively bulletproof. GT4 ended up with a little squeak from the B-pillar that the dealership fixed under warranty, second 991.2 Carrera has only suffered on failure: the fluid line to the hood for the windshield squirters worked its way free and had to be replaced under warranty.

My service writer, who has always been a plain dealer, said the 991.2s have been rock solid except two things: water pumps and that little line. Fails on cars where the front trunk is used a lot, as mine is.

I've been thrilled with this 911. Just plain wonderful as a daily.

pete
