I just looked under my 2017 base manual cab and saw weeping / leaking with fluid on the muffler and lower pump. Is there a risk to catastrophic failure if I keep driving it for the next couple of weeks before getting to the dealer as long as the fluid levels are good? Does the pump itself fail and stop circulting coolant or is it just a fluid leak at the bearing seal?

I did not vote (because it is not my car) but I had a patient today who just got a CPO'd 2019 991.2 GTS. He had to have the water pump replaced within the first month of ownership. I have had no issues with the water pump in my 2016 991.1 GTS but I have had several other issues (which I discussed in a separate that that I created a few months ago). Love the car but it is far from bulletproof.

That might be the first time I have ever read of a 2019 water pump failing. Are you sure of the year?

I guess you could continue to drive it provided you constantly monitored the water temp (& idiot light) and made sure the coolant level is topped off. I believe it's a seal of some type not the pumping mechanism that's defective. It can leak a little or A LOT! No way to tell while you're driving. I have yet to hear of an engine expiring due to this issue. But, there's always the first one.

Hurricane - He told me it is a 2019 991.2 GTS but I suppose he could have been mistaken. He bought it CPO'd from Porsche South Bay with about 3,000 miles on it.

The ones that have been posted (mainly in other threads) have been 2017s and early build 2018s, perhaps built as late as October 2017, I forget. I do not believe I have seen builds later than those dates that were affected and certainly no 2019s.

My '18 GTS is a March '18 build and has not had the failure. I am hopeful that mine was not one of the earlier ones that were affected and I have not seen one posted yet with that late build date in '18.

Keeping my fingers crossed! On the other hand, once replaced I don't recall seeing anyone post about any further failures.

Verified customer concern, found there is a coolant leak from under the rear of the vehicle. Pressurized cooling system, found pressure drops. Raised vehicle, found coolant is leaking from the coolant pump. Removed vacuum line on coolant pump, inspected for signs of coolant, none found. Connected scan tool and battery maintainer and created pre-VAL. Drained cooling system, removed left/right tail light housings, removed left/right rear wheels, removed rear apron, removed rear bumper, removed exhaust system, removed engine carrier, removed drive belt, removed and installed new coolant pump. Reassembled vehicle. Filled and bled cooling system. Test drove vehicle from 6252 to 6265 miles, inspected for leaks, none found. Connected scan tool and battery maintainer, created post-VAL.

My post on the other Water Pump thread.

2018 C4S with 5813 miles.
MFG 9/17.

Enclosed was the service description on the Warranty Service Work Order:

coolant leaking from front impeller seal of water pump. Coolant is leaking externally and internally into the vacuum system. Coolant made its way to the valve block. Removed rear bumper and spoiler. Replaced coolant pump. Drained and bled coolant. Lowered engine and replaced valve block. Ran val prior to repair. Performed coolant bleed with a scan tool. Cleaned engine. Test drove and verified repair.
