It is easy to do if you send your cluster to a pro to do the work.

Yikes, it seems like a desirable thing to do but not at that rate.

Some here have done it as I recall reading the thread but it was not easy, or maybe it would be better to say it is not a quick job.

When ordering the car, dealer said likely 3k to change color at a later time.

I changed the gauges in my 2011 Cayman S. It wasn't hard to do, as long as you take your time, go slow, and pay attention to what you're doing. I ordered the new gauge backgrounds from https://www.heiler-tachodesign.de/ . Admittedly I have no experience doing the same thing in a 991, which I have now. I had no desire to change the colour, I just wanted my car to have a Canadian/European gauge set rather than the US version. I followed a great write up that I can't seem to find anymore. The price was very reasonable, the quality is great, and I was very happy with the finished product. I think my total cost was around $125.00USD.

Original gauge cluster.

New gauge backgrounds

Installed.

...and in the car.

Here is an old thread with some basic info: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/7640...ial-faces.html

And this is very detailed but for a 997; however, it can be used as a guide: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...ter-diy-4.html

I seriously considered getting White when I ordered my car and if I had to do it again I would - they would look great with the Miami Blue trim rings I have. At least I changed the tach to Black since I do not like the standard Gray.

After seeing some of the nice colors in cars on here, mine are quite uninspiring. Definitely something I will be looking into on my next car

My problem with white is that you always see the car icons (low tire pressure, overheating, etc). They do not disappear or get hidden as with the darker color gauges.

agree. the black "ghosts" all of those icons and you don't see them. i use to have a car with white gauges and you could see all those icons, made it very busy. black makes for a clean look.

I bet it isn't that hard of a job once you get over the fear of damaging a likely multi thousand dollar part on your $100k+ car. I've done gauge color swaps before on other makes, usually just some screws.

I DID do the sport chrono gauge face color change on my 991. It was easy once you got over the same fears mentioned above but on a $900 part. Just needed a pair of tweezers and a screwdriver.
