Anyone regret getting PDK?

Not at all, first PDK and was very unsure as to whether I’d like it but it’s a fantastic gearbox. Traffic is dreadful around me and has got a heck of a lot worse since covid for some reason, being able to stick it in D is an absolute godsend.

I have a 991.1 and after a long line of 997's and Boxster's it's my first automatic. Does it have a lot of great qualities such as intuitive downshifts (in sport mode) and super fast shifting? Absolutely!
Is it as engaging as a manual in a 911? Not really. It's my weekend fun car so no commuting or bumper to bumper traffic. If I did it again, which I'll probably do, I would get a stick. That's just me. You can rationalize both sides of the argument. Either way, it's a win.

I was on the fence when getting my .1 GTS whether I should go for the 7MT vs PDK. Originally I was going to get a 997.2 GT3RS so there the manual is a no-brainer. The 6MT on the .1 GT3 is also magnificent. But the 7MT in the Carreras is totally different and frankly pretty underwhelming. The other thing is living in San Francisco driving a manual is *miserable* with the hills and tight parking garage entrances. I'm a decent manual driver but I'm pretty sure I'd eat through clutches faster than I'd like here.

I have had my base Carrera for less than a month and I can say that I don't miss the manual yet. I know it's not a long time, but I have grown accustomed to using the paddles. I only got it b/c of the shorter waiting time. Still on the list for an S, but so far, I don't have any complaints. I've driven sticks for 40 years and I still drive my 2007 328 6 speed couple daily. Took the 911 on two long trips so far.

Have been driving manual Porsches for the past 50 years starting with my first ‘66 912 (optional 5-speed) to my last naturally aspirated ‘05 911 Carrera S (6-speed)… shifting was second nature and always based on engine sound input… the experience was highly enjoyable and always fun to play around with the gears, although in later years (in Los Angeles) the inevitable stop & go traffic could be maddening… my first paddle shift car was a ‘14 458 Ferrari… and I was hooked!… shifting was lighting fast, very precise, more than just fun and even traffic jams were doable… moreover, I never missed the stick… in the blink of an eye, I was converted to paddles… so when it was time for my current Porsche I went to PDK…
My ‘18 base 911 Carrera with PDK is a wonderful car- my DD, but it does have some paddle drawbacks… first, the size (length) of the paddles are small compared to the 458 and not as easy to maneuver… I added shift extenders which fixed that, but they do obscure viewing the fuel gauge a bit… the other issue is about when to shift… the twin turbo engine is so quiet I can’t get a good sense of engine rpm by sound alone and have to constantly check the tach to seek shift points… this is a pain… so, I have reluctantly decided to go completely automatic, in sport mode, and just let the car shift itself… not bad, but not as much fun paddle shifting…
Parenthetically… I was going to trade my 458 for a 488 Ferrari, but the 488 is no longer naturally aspirated (twin turbo) and the engine sound IMO is decidedly inferior… so I went to a Lambo Huracan Evo- the last of their NA engines… and paddle shift like crazy…

These threads are a waste of time. PDK versus MANUAL is such a subjective question that there is no answer. It is purely an individual preference like the clothing you choose or the color you love/hate. God I wish these threads would just die.

There must be a reason why Porsche brought back the manual in the 911. If all they had were PDKs, they would have one less buyer and sooner or later, it will come to that I am sure.
What year was it that they only had PDKs in the 911?

Carrera's always had a manual option. However, the 991.1 GT3 only came in PDK. They offered manuals again with the 991.2 GT3.
Side note, the .1 and .2 GT3RS/GT2RS only came in PDK.

I honestly can't imagine having a manual on the Turbo's. I love me a manual, but sometimes it just doesn't make sense.
