Default Replacing hood support struts

Hello everyone, has anyone replaced the hood (frunk) struts?

I have the parts and I need to do it just wondering if this is a simple job I can do myself or is it best to leave it the the experts?

Would appreciate link to instructions, I haven't found anything online for the 991.

My car is a 2013 991.1.

Thanks.

Here is a vlog of a Porsche Boxster that is similar to a 991. Ensure you hold the hood open before removing each gas struts. Or, get a helping hand.

Looks quite easy from that video...but I’m sure the hood will fall on my head at least once before I get this job done! 😊

Super easy job, but sometimes those little retaining clips will make you curse trying to get them snapped in.

Turned out to be a super easy 5 minute fix!

I thought the clips might be tricky but they opened very easily with a screwdriver, and they don’t need to be re-used as the new struts come with them.

Thanks for the video posted by sidvicious, it describes the process to change these out very well.

I bought the parts online from Gaudin Porsche which is a great place to buy parts.

Very helpful thread - just did this in 5 minutes. Very easy to get the clips out with a screwdriver, though I got a bit cocky on the second one and ended up dropping a clip in the hole right next to the strut

Just be careful anytime using any metal tool near the paint. A slight slip will cause you to cry.

Any one know of a good source for struts for the REAR engine cover? Suncoast has them but they are considerably more expensive than the fronts ($96 a pair).

I got my front trunk struts from rockauto for $14 each. Here are the rear engine cover struts for $8. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...t+support,1404
