State Farm will try to screw you any way they can. Get a diminished value assessment, have a Porsche dealer or a top notch repair center estimate the cost of the repair and then be prepared to lawyer up. if you're on good terms with your agent call him or her- that might help too. If you're in Northern Va there are some excellent repair centers (Wagonworks in Alexandria) but I go to Euro Pros in Gaithersburg.

The car is at an official repair shop with a very good reputation, so if it is repaired that’s the best place.

However, as I have both detailed repair estimates including the one from Geico saying it’s totaled, I wrote to SF yesterday pointing out the differences and I told them I would not feel safe driving a powerful RWD sports car after such major bodywork repairs.

Will try to speak to the manager at my local agent’s today and see what they say.

I'm sorry if I missed it, if you posted earlier, but what exactly was the damage? Any frame damage? (All the damage on mine was repairable, including the frame damage, but it became very expensive for them to do so. My Porsche-certified collision center was more than happy to do the repairs - it was my insurance company that finally blinked.)

If you do get it repaired instead of totaled, go after the insurance company for diminished value, as others have said. There are several previous threads on here about it.

I used Tysons Collision Center but I have heard great things about Euro Pros.

If Geico will pay for the full damage whether repaired or totaled, why would SF want to repair it (when they don’t have to pay either way)? I am not sure what I’m missing here.

I believe, from reading above, the guy with Geico has the minimum liability insurance required, so not enough to cover the total cost. As such SF gets to pick up the rest of the tab. If “fixed” tab might be less than total than SF is trying to save a few bucks.

Well good news my friends! State Farm agreed the car is totaled, and (after a bit of negotiation) they gave me a fair offer which I accepted. Thanks so much to all the Rennlisters who assisted me with great advice, I really appreciate it.

Time to go 911 shopping!!! 😊

Good deal. I know you only had it for a few months but this is your chance to get exactly what you want, or close. Think about what options that you did not have that you wanted and try to get them this time!

Exactly Bob! I loved my first 911 but I did wish it had certain options next one will!

Good luck! I thought it would wind up that way.

How did their offer compare to BB value and local market value, I am always curious about this. Glad it worked out for you!

Initially it was quite low, but in a long arduous phone call (took about 90 minutes) I was able to bring them up to a reasonable valuation.

One thing that really annoyed me was their assessor said in the report the car had ‘numerous parking dings’...it was pristine!

I have always figured they will always come in low, at least you were able to work something out. Getting another 991?
