My wheels were powdercoated satin black a couple of months ago. In the shade or in the sun from at least 8 or so ft away, they look good. Well always in shade they look good. In direct sunlight up close, they look a little rough. Is this par for the coarse with black wheels? I have tried polish and sealant and did not really make a difference. Just trying to understand if this was a crappy job or just the way black wheels are. Please see pics below.

What color are they gloss or flat black? Because if they were supposed to be gloss it was a bad job

Doesnt look like whoever did it did a good job either way I see many diff shades of black by the tires and the corners of the rim. Whoever did the job u should complain and ask them to redo the powder coating. Just curious how much was the job cause I am looking to powder coat my wheels and porsche dealer has quoted me $1000 to powder coat then balance and reinstall.

$500 lifetime warranty. That said, they also punctured on of my tires, but did buy me a new one. The other popular shop in the area was $400 more. My experience was not the best. I wonder if I should approach and get them to fix, ask for part of my money back, or cut my loses. It was a PITA with these folks. But they do work on high end cars. Outsource powder coating however.

IMO, they didn't put enough black color coat on the wheel and/or their spray gun was dirty. I have a set of powdercoated gloss black wheels and they do not have streaks like that. BTW, my local shop charges $800 for color powder coating, machine cutting, and clear coating over four wheels.

Your wheels looks dirty by looking at the inner barrels. Wash them first & post pictures under the sun again.

I had just washed them. The inners looked a little dirty from a wipe down after a little break dust. I rewiped all of the wheels before taking pics. They are dust free.

Doesnt look like good work, did they even apply any clear coating?

Use black chrome liquid on mine. Keeps them deep satin black and easily washed off with water.

I feel that your wheels look the same when zoomed in? How do they look in direct sun? Satin black aftermarket powdercoat? Any streaks? And yes to above, what is the liquid black stuff that you are speaking of?

My mistake… ”Black Chrome” made by Turtle wax is no longer being manufactured. I switched to ArmorAll "Outlast - Trim & Plastic Restorer" on the wheel that was posted. The product takes that milky white coating off the black wheel surface and leaves a nice even satin finish. Application is with a rag and then a clean rag to remove excess and then buff. The product is actually made to restore black plastic bumpers and trim but I am using it on the powder coated wheel for the same purpose.

The wheels are Porsche stock flat black powder coated wheels. The ArmorAll Outlast leaves a nice satin finish on the black where I can then wash the brake dust off with a simple flush with the hose. I am real reluctant to use any type of soap or cleaner since I have seen multiple wheels discolored and corroded. I get a chance tomorrow, I will pull the car out and take a picture of the wheel in direct sunlight.

P.S. I use this product on all black plastic surfaces on the car to keep the plastic from oxidizing (windshield cowl, back valance, etc) and looking new.

Satin is very difficult to clean. Never use wheel product on it in my opinion. Only water and the soap you wash your car with.

looks like you may have had a chemical reaction. I had a matte set do this.

What finish were they originally? Maybe the prep was not done correctly? They should look as good as OEM wheels if done correctly.
