Advice on buying 991.2 4 GTS former PEC-LA car
I’ve been looking for a CPO 991.2 GTS in Miami Blue, manual with RAS and PDCC and found one at Resnak Porsche in California.
The car has 1200 miles on it and I inquired on the history of the car. The dealership was anything but upfront about it, but with the help of a fellow Rennlister and a PCA-HI member, I learned that this car was initially an executive demo that was used at the LA Porsche Experience center and procured by Resnak when the car had 496 miles on it. It was then leased to a customer in CA who trades it back in to Resnak Porsche for another vehicle 9 months later. The car now has 1200 miles and is being offered as a CPO.
A colleague in PCA-HI let me know that he knew the car from PEC-LA and reached out to his friend named Dieter who is a long time instructor at PEC-LA and knew the specific car. He informed me that the car was well taken care of, “over-serviced” and in great health. He said he would have no reservations about buying it.
I had Rusnak run the DME for overrevs and have attached the reports. There were 2 ignitions in range 3 at 11.5 hours. Not sure what to make of that, seems pretty insignificant but I’m not the expert.
The car is a CPO and I really like it. Looking for some advice on this particular vehicle from the experts.
Im located in Hawaii. Thanks in advance.

Range #3 over revs are not a deal breaker. They were a little early in its lifecycle at 11.5 hours, though.
How long is the CPO?
How long will you keep it?
If the math above works out, buy it, enjoy it, get out of it before the CPO expires.
Use the DME report and the prior history to hammer the seller on price.

Instructor
Are you someone who tends to baby his cars? Or do you drive it like you stole it? If it’s the former, you may want to think twice about a PEC car.
I was at PEC LA last year for the Master the Manual course. I was given a T with less than 100 miles on the odometer, and guided by the instructor the car was driven HARD. Repeated WOT, emergency braking, hard cornering, sliding, etc. I’m guessing that with 500 PEC miles on your GTS, that’s probably gone through about 20 drivers of varying and unknown skill level.
Assuming you’re comfortable with that type of history and that CPO is enough insurance for you, then I’d say it comes down to how good a deal you can get out of Rusnak. Good luck with your decision.

Wow, I wouldn't touch it. It would be like buying a rental car that I drove. It belongs to someone else, abuse it. You should visit a PEC and watch how the cars are driven.

I would only be worried about the clutch (not covered under CPO). 2 ignitions at range 3 is an error on the report. Research it and you'll see that there are error blips on those reports all the time.

I've done PEC Atlanta 5 times so I know how the cars are treated. Pretty hard. Hammered when engine is not warmed up yet. Break-in not completed before tracking the car.
I never really focused too much on babying the car during break-in but then again, I wasn't tracking my cars either. Slamming the engine before being warmed up is problematic at any time in engine life.
I wouldn't take it.

When I went through the Atlanta PEC, my coach stated that I would be driving their car in a way I would never drive my own car. And I did.
300 miles per a set of tires.
I would pass on any car with a similarly history to this one but that’s me.

Unless they are giving it to you for literally a steal or your finances compels you to only look at this, then it is what it is. Otherwise, I would not touch it.
I too have spent my fair contribution on "driving lessons" at PEC and every GT3 I have gotten into, all I have been doing is hunting faster and faster laps with the permission of the same coach who already knows my driving level and is comfortable with how I execute, I have been generously allowed to find the breaking point and characteristics of the GT3 which I will never attempt to do in you own RS.
For the $1K I spent on every 90 minute session, I aimed to drive the wheels off the car. If I wasn't going to do that, I am not going to PEC.
