Default PSDS cars

Shopping around for cars, I saw a couple of 911s that I highly suspect used to be PSDS cars. One of them being sold as new, although with 15k miles. I didn't see a single disclaimer about being a driving school car. Not saying they wouldn't disclaim that.

So here's the heads up. Regardless on how comfortable one is buying one of those (I would for the right price), know they take a LOT of abuse. For instance, the TTS spends the morning doing launch control. 3-4x per driver, 25ish drivers. They have 4 in their fleet.

The TTS are sapphire, nicely equipped. Carbon fiber trim, sunroof or not, PCCB

GTS used to be orange, now yellow and red. Manual and PDK, all with sunroof delete, PDCC and PCCB.

The GT3 all white, normal seats, PDK. GT3 RS used to be white, retired as far as I know.

Cayman S red, manual and PDK. One Boxster for Autocross, orange. One blue for figure of 8

They seem to go around 15k miles/ one year. The carfax May raise a red flag as the first owner is the dealer around 15k miles and nothing before that, I believe.

I don't want to start a discussion about the validity of purchasing these cars or not. Just be aware if they fit the bill above, I would ask. I think an informed decision can be very useful (and disappointing)

Cheers!

PSDS = Porsche Student Driving School?? Is that what that stands for?
I bought a year old 2015 C2S with 3000 miles on it. It had Manual, Premium Pkg Plus, Sunroof in Glass, Bose, and a lot of nice options. I knew it was a PCNA car. They told me that it was a PCNA executive car. It was a super car at a super price, new car title and 5 years warranty remaining. I enjoyed every minute of the more than two years I owned it. Recently got a great trade in for it too. I have no complaints on that 911 C2S.

Those take a lot of abuse, but they are well maintained. If it was for an incredibly good price, I’d consider it.

You are very much correct about the Turbo S. Launch control all day long.......but, it can do it.

Yep, they can. I just wonder if they replace the clutch before selling them. They told us the dealers are eager to buy those cars. I wonder why $$$? For the proper price, considering the risk, I would go for it. What I see out there is far from proper price, as usual.

The clutches in the PDK aren't designed to be replaced without replacing the whole PDK. They are designed to last the life of the car. They are multi-plate wet clutches that aren't the same materials or concept as old-school manual clutches

There's a video somewhere of a reviewer testing the PDK in the Turbo by doing 50 back-to-back PDK launches and it never had a problem with it. (He physically had a problem with it since the repeated high-G moments made him get pretty motion sick though)

That's pretty awesome. Still wouldn't buy it unknowingly this happened. Just me, I don't like the wear and tear argument later on.

I was offered one of the blue TTs with the dealer making full disclosure, offering CPO and a fair price. It looked and drove like new and I considered the 5 bolt wheels an advantage. I passed largely over concern about downstream PDK reliability.

Just finished the 2-day precision at Barber, going back in November for the Masters. Those cars are driven quite hard though not abused (driven badly). All cars ran with the A/C plus seat cooling on all day.

Most of the ones I drove had less than 6k miles and showed no mechanical distress with one exception, one of the Caymans I drove set off a brake warning message due to worn pads. It was taken off-line and sent for maintenance.

That was the only car I saw taken off track.

The dependability of those school cars was quite striking, but I still wouldn't buy one.

These get sold as "demos" or "executive demos". They are sold new because they have never been titled before. Look for cars originating from GA and that have some miles on them as an indicator.

edit. you also see it as corporate fleet as the type of owner.

These cars should be clearly labeled as such when sold. They might be well maintained and maybe not driven harder than Porsche’s should, but I think many people would pass on these if they knew their previous life.
