Lousy Detail Job !@&$!
So I told the guy to not touch my convertible top. Here’s what it looks like. Of course he flat out denied what happened. Deep abrasions in thre fabric!!
Does the whole top need replacement OR do you just change out the fabric?

How on earth do you do that kind of damage to a top?!?!

Have you contacted your insurance rep for their thoughts? I would think the vendor would be insured to cover this type of liability. You have the after picture.....but do you have any before pictures?

Please tell use more about this "detail job" in particular; what you paid and the work involved?
Regardless, this was NOT done by a reputable professional, and I say that not because of the poor (damaged) work quality, but because of the person's response of deniability. A true professional takes ownership and makes it right when they fail.

Can you share the year your car was manufactured and how often you open the top? Some of the lines on the cloth top appear to be from normal wear, and where the top creates folds once opened. My wife owns a 2004 convertible with a cloth top and I too have noticed some slight wear where the top folds. However, her car doesn’t have the extreme wear around the back window or close to what I see in your car. Did your top look this way before the detailing?

So of course he wasn’t a “professional”. Just an acquaintance at work that details cars on the side. Just tried to help the guy out and help him earn a few extra bucks. (WRONG!!). He did a decent job on my other cars. no scratches / swirls that I could see on the paint
Its a 2017. Bought it CPO in 2017. Top was in perfect shape before the dude laid his hands on it. I have great body pics but no good top before pics.
I drive dop down any time it’s above 60. Never store it down. I never park outside. It’s garaged, and it’s my daily.
I waited several months swallowing my pride. I didn’t want to go after the guy. No insurance of course for him.
I just ceramic coated the whole car — it looks awesome except for the top. So I gave State Farm a call.
They have ave a cool ap where you take pics and send it in. They offered 5,000 for repair/replacement. 0 deductible. (I am pleased with that).
Now I need to figure where to send it. And, what to do. I checked eBay — looks like 4000 for a new roof.

What a shame, try to help a guy out and this is what happens.
Hope you get it fixed with a minimum of drama and cost.

How is this State Farm's responsibly? I'm not following.
Before doing anything else, like a replacement, I'd recommend doing the RaggTopp cleaning and protectant, and see if you can live with those potential improvements.
