With all the money we pay on insurance seems reasonable that they would cover damage to a car. They have a vandalism clause.

I’ve done the Ragg Top cleaner and protectant. Does nothing to change the appearance of the grooves/lines in thre fabric. The fibers are frayed.

So what exactly did he do to the top? Buff it with an orbital? Hand polish/wax it?

My guess is the guy did not mask off the cabriolet. Then proceeded to get polish and/or wax/sealant on it. Then abraded the fabric trying to remove his mistake and lack of prep work.

Either that or just nailed it with a pressure washer while cleaning it. But your scenario is more likely.

I find it hard to believe that the OPs insurance would pay for poor workmanship by a contractor hired by an insured. The insurer is then becoming the liability carrier of a third party they do not have a contract with.

That sucks! Lesson learned. Stick with professionals or DIY.

You paid a guy to vandalize your car?

Sorry for your troubles. It would bother the heck out of me. Keep us posted on your journey to get it fixed. I am also interested in hearing the cost of replacement. Thank you and good luck!!!

I had a top replaced on my 2013. A seam was starting to develop a very SLIGHT separation (probably enough to put the tip of a pen/pencil through?). I need to look for the paperwork but I want to say the top itself was over $6k (from dealer). WORST part? It took them DAYS to do it - apparently it’s quite a labor intensive job. There’s alignment stuff to do, panel swapping, etc. I want to say all in it was around $10k. I don’t have those numbers in the invoice as they zero that stuff out when it’s done by CPO/warranty (I saw it on the dealer paperwork that they keep). Have had zero problems since, fortunately.

Are these newer tops maybe of lower quality? I had a new 06 Boxster S for 6 years, 40k miles, 70+ track days, and hundreds of touchless automatic (pressure) carwashes. The top looked like new when I sold it. All I did to it was cleaned and protected it with the Porsche stuff (or Raggtop) 1x or 2x a year.

Our tops are still excellent quality. In fact, compared to an 06 or tops are even better; the contoured shape and the magnesium panels (really quiet) make a world of difference, in both function & design.

Your routine of using RaggTopp/Porsche protectant 1x or 2x per year was most excellent care, even though you went through carwashes (too much and too frequent use of soap). Most owners don't do this. They are great products, and you proved it.
