Saw a weird spec...I think.
I was driving today and saw a dark blue 991.1. I noticed it immediately because it’s the color I wanted. I was hoping it wasn’t an S because then I would be really jealous. But sure enough, it said Carrera S on the back. BUT then I noticed it had the standard 19” wheels. I thought the S came standard with 20”. Ok, maybe he changed the wheels? BUT I also noticed it has grey/standard brake calipers, not red like mine. They seemed to be factory. I thought maybe he just stuck an emblem on the back (lame) but it has the quad exhaust tips of an S?
So did early S models come with small wheels and regular calipers? Or did he have a base car with sports exhaust and an S emblem? Or could you order an S with small wheels and standard brakes?
It it was great color and looked fine I was just confused.

it seems so strange to me to stick an S on a non-S car. regular people don't know or care and anyone who does can spot the fake.
i did paint the calipers on my non-S 993 red, though, so maybe i'm not in a position to judge.

At first I thought that perhaps it could have been a car with winter tires and wheels mounted, but the brake calipers lead me to believe that somebody added the S badge.

Easy way to tell the difference that most people don’t bother to change if they slap an “S” on the back (even if they paint calipers too) is that there is an extra “insert/dam” in front of the radiators in the lower bumper on the base (I guess they feel the S needs extra cooling?). I do not BELIEVE you can remove it without taking off the front bumper. I never removed it on mine b/c the car seems to take forever to warm up as it is (and I do not track currently) - I would probably remove if I tracked. Most people don’t even notice it’s there (or that the absence of it distinguishes an S from the base in a “front view” only.
