Default Memory Settings Conundrum

I have been reading the manual and going over the settings for my '19 C4S. Making headway on some of them but Porsche has layered functions that aren't readily intuitive.

One in particular is the A/C setting on start, the A/C is coming on as a default. Since it's winter, the A/C isn't needed. I've gone through the memory settings for the key and the "1" button with the A/C on "OFf" and the A/C still comes on.

I was at the dealer today picking up some documents and the SA (who seems quite knowledgeable) went through the key memory and the "1" button set-up several times to eliminated A/C on start. No luck, A/C still comes on, necessitating manual shut-off.

He said he would inquire with Porsche as to how to change the A/C status on start, as we couldn't make the change.

Has anyone experienced the same issue, or has a way of getting the A/C not to come on at start?

Any help would be appreciated.

I believe it's the fan that comes on by default at startup, not the AC.

Yeah, it's a design flaw or rather, a mistake by one of their engineers who fell through the cracks and failed "Switchology 101: On/Off function" course. I've mentioned this to the service department and their foreman acted as if I was the first person to mention this issue. He was definitely not cut out to be an actor but would have made an excellent politician.

Fans always on is not a flaw, but done on purpose, from what I read somewhere. Has to do with air pressure in cabin or something like that.

Well, this is a kick in the pants, doesn't really make sense to have the A/C come on by default, and as Bob Z. said, the red indicator on the A/C button is on so the compressor is on as well.

My SA acted surprised as well when I mentioned, like I stated before, made several attempts to have it not go on.

Another issue, as I was pulling into the garage, the A/C had been switched off and it turned itself on while I was waiting for the garage door to go up, I heard a change in the engine sound and at first wasn't sure what it was, looked down and saw the A/C on, turned it off, back to "normal" sounds, no compressor noise.

I guess I'll add turn off A/C to the start up routine.

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen.

Did you have the auto start/stop engaged?

No, it was disengaged, the engine was running. I disable the stop/start when I get in the car or use the rotor to select Sport or Individual (which has Sport selected).

Come to think of it I doubt that would reset it anyway. But man, the only thing worse than having the AC come on when you start the car is not having the ability to program it off.

I can’t think of any other make & model that does this. If this was normal, wouldn’t Porsche tell us that it is so? The 911 cabin isn’t air tight nor is it pressurized. I’ve driven around for over an hour with the fan off and windows rolled up and never once felt hypoxic . Would be interested to see what you said in writing...just curious.

I have a 2018 and no issues.

Just set “1” and set “key” works.
I can have AC on or off depending on what I key for memory. So don’t believe it’s always start with AC on unless that’s a new feature on the 2019.

I guess I am the outlier. But I drive with A/C on always. A/C doesn't mean it is cold. It means the air is dehumidified and then cooled or heated depending on your temp setting and the ambient temp. Using A/C keeps me dry and comfortable and means the windows almost never fog up. I am not sure why I would ever turn it off?
