Asia has overtaken USA # cars sold. I'd say that's HUGE.

If it's all models combined then I am not surprised.

911s are popular in China. What areas do you go to?

911 are not particular popular in China, they only manage to sold 1674 units last year.

Porsche sold 1,674 units of the 911 in China last year, just 2.3 percent of its Chinese volume. In its German home market Porsche sold 7,500 examples of the 911 for a 25 percent share of its sales.

The 911 couldn't be any more ill-suited for the Chinese market. Prestige is expressed through a car's dimensions, not its horsepower.

Wealthy consumers in China still prefer not to be behind the wheel themselves - they might like to be driven in a four-cylinder version of a Mercedes S-class long-wheelbase sedan, for example. China's high-performance, two-door luxury sports car segment is tiny.

More important than number of cars sold in China (which had already been close) is the margin in China on cars sold.

Put the two together, and...

Only right for Porsche to charge so much to have the car painted in some hideous tasteless color.

Lucky you, you must be living right next to those 1674 units...I wonder how many of those are in Lava Orange. Anyway, I think Hong Kong alone have more than 1674 units of 991 but I have seen maybe 3 Lava Oranges in Hong Kong and one of those were at the service center.

I don't live in China and I have never seen a LO 911 in China before. HK is not part of China for sales statistics. The above stats were only for one year. The 1674 units are spread out through multiple provinces/cities, not in one location.

They aren't popular compared to regular Porsches, but compare them to the Jaguar F-Type or a similar competitor and you will see that it's relatively popular.

I’ll bite. Is the answer the now dearly-departed (except by PTS) Graphite Blue Metallic?

GBM is gone, but Carrara White Metallic is still there.

I am going with deichenb & 'GraphitBlau Metallic'. Stout's 'Carrara White Metallic' might even be 'Mica'...
but nobody probably cares because it's sort of boring.

I hope Pete doesn't feature a Porsche in that bland hue at his upcoming 000 'Rare Shades' stravaganza
evento on August 23rd at Canepa in
Scotts Valley, CA!

And a liitle history here. We broke the story here on Rennlist on this then new & upcoming Porsche
color back in July of 2015 during a trip to das vaterland. Since, it has been one of my favorites in
the Porsche color palette.

Porsche has also use 'Mica' paint to reproduce Audi's stunning 'Nogaro Blue' as one of their offerings for PTS:

So congratulations to deichenb! And as ABBA told us back in the days of my youth, 'The Winner Takes It All'.
We dedicate this song to you!

Default Thanks!

Thank you Eduardo! I will graciously accept the ABBA. I love GBM as well - it is the opposite mica of boring. One of my favorite, tasteful modern colors, PTS or not. So much so that I’m grabbing amongst the last of the “series color” GBM cars at the factory next week! Thread forthcoming... next week.

PS I have used your reference thread on codes to track my car from when it was nary a twinkle in my eye at V070 to when it hit V300 this past Thursday. Thx you for that.

Congrats, Deichen! Missed Eduardo's 2017/2018 availability clause, and between the two colors, I too would select GBM.

But, as for Carrara White Metallic being "bland"? Despite being no fan of metallic whites in the past, I have to say a friend's GT4 in CWM was stunning in person when he stopped by. It looked anything but bland with gray wheels, red calipers, and red stitching. It looked expensive and subtly exotic, with none of the "beige" or "eggshell" seen in traditional metallic whites. Not sure I would order it, but I like that it's out there. YMMV...
