A little light research on the history of the 911T. This is one of the many reasons I like the T
In 1968, Porsche built only 35 911T/R coupes for its race and rally customers. Based on the 911T, rather than the heavier S model, the 911T/R was homologated with parts from the 911R of 1967. The cars were stripped of sound deadening, and a limited slip differential was fitted, along with an oil cooler, oversize fuel tank, roll bar, ventilated disc brakes and Koni shock absorbers. Some were built with the 230-horsepower twin-plug 906 engine. Three of the cars — powered by modified two-liter engines of about 180 horsepower — were equipped to compete in SCCA C Production and Trans-Am B Sedan.
contrary to naysayers there is a close relationship between the T and the R. As well as I strong winning race history associated to the T. The TR package above sounds very similar to the T a lot of us are specifying in our orders.
Checked german site mobile.de, there is about 120 Ts for sale at the moment. Only 30 are manuals. Two months ago there were about 160 Ts for sale, so slowly Ts are disappearing from the dealers. Not too many manuals at the dealers. In euro zone currently 991 porsches cannot be ordered because of the new emission regulations. I think next new porches in euro zone will be 992 models.
Is this starting to suggest low production. I know my dealer had only 2 allocations through the end of this year both '19's. T 992 production will be interesting, no mention of availability.
Owned 30+ Porsches, most 911’s. Raced 911’s for 20+ years...I like 911’s. While taking delivery of 2018 GT3 I noticed the T on the showroom floor. Three weeks later still there.....so I bought it because it looked so good. GT Silver blk/yel T interior, agate grey accents, and it was a manual.
What I didn’t expect was what a great driving car this is. This is the closest feel to the early 911’s in any modern car. It feels light, tossable, the short shifter is precise and the engine with its low end torque is an absolute joy to drive. It sounds great without sports exhaust on yet cabin is quite enough to enjoy very long trips in. And it’s damn good looking without screaming look at me.
Mind you I love my GT3 but driving it on the street for long periods of time does beat you up a bit. Then when you consider the T is $50k or more less, I say the T is THE current 911 to own.
