That has to be what I am hearing. I've been going nuts trying to find it. I thought it was the steering column cover.

I thought the downside to lithium batteries is crappy cold cranking amps. What is the deal with low temps in the teens?

Thanks for that.... I had not seen that Charger before. Thats a good feature, and I was not aware of it.

Yes an incorrectly sized lithium battery will struggle in cold weather.... but note that in the past many were using very small Amp Hour Lithium Batteries such as 10 to 15Amp hour batteries that were popular a few years back. So yes a tiny Lithium coupled with close to freezing weather was a not a good combination for starting a vehicle.. But our 40Amp Hour battery would shrug off cold weather starts in the low 20s F. But I also want to qualify that by saying Lithium does have resistance in severe cold weather... so one should not go below a 40Ah battery when expecting to drive in below freezing weather relatively frequently. So you do have to have a certain size to use it successfully in colder temps. Also note that if there is any sluggishness with a lithium battery, after a start attempt or two the battery comes back to full strength because on each start attempt the expelled current actually self warms the battery. So even some smaller lithium batteries can be used in cold weather but you have to follow a procedure, but we don't recommend that. Just get 40ah and you will be good. But overall this battery is really not meant for pure Winter use, for example in a Pick-up Truck that is a work truck and left out in close to Zero temperatures. But we are making a 60Ah version that we would be confident in doing that.

Thank you, Daberlin, awesome thread. I just changed my battery this AM. Picked-up when Battreries Plus opened at 8AM, drove home, did the work, done at 9:30AM. Did a nice detail under to cowel and changed the paper pre-air filter, too.

I just checked my maintenance records. My factory battery lasted 5 years and 6 days. And over 62,000 miles. I always used a battery maintainer.

I know this is an old post but just a heads up if members were looking to purchase the Interstate MTX-49 H8 battery. Costco now carries the same at $177.99. It is item 1355853 - H8(49)AGM

I agree use left and right while looking at the battery from the front of the car then it works for even for those who drive on the wrong side of the road.

This seems to be a hot topic. I have few questions.

Is the OEM battery an AGM battery? My understanding was that there can be issues with fumes from battery into the interior with non-AGM. Is that correct?

Would Interstate MTX-49 H8 work? Is there really a need for programming? I'm not sure I can swap the battery in 10 seconds, so chances are high that things would get reset. So, what do i do in that case? Is it just moving seat and window positions to end stops?

Last question. Seems like Interstate charges just $15 for battery installation. Would you trust them to swap the battery?

I have stored my car for the entire winter without a battery and had nothing to reset. There is no need to hurry with the battery swap.

Lots of folks claim there is no need to hook up a battery maintainer to preserve memory settings. But, for anyone that wants to follow the cautious route and doesn't have a battery maintainer, there is a very cheap and simple device that connects a standard 9v battery to the cigarette lighter socket (in center console). I think I got mine at Autozone for less than $5 including battery. Apparently 9v is enough to preserve memory. It worked fine on a BMW for me. I haven't tried it on the 911.

I have had the battery disconnected numerous times on my car, sometimes for hours at a time. Never once lost any settings. The only thing I have needed to do after was the quick auto up/down window reset (hold button down).

The cautious thing to do is not to fiddle with a second voltage source and simply leave the battery disconnected.
