I think the message here is that we need to police ourselves. If a couple people complain, the hammer comes out and the thread is shut down. The mods don't have enough time to play kindergarten cop.
I'm not that interested in 991.1 modification, releases, issues, etc because largely its irrelevant to my car and visa versa. It doesn't necessarily address the 992 thread since there's nowhere for this to be created appropriately, but I think a lot of this could be avoided if many of these threads were split by .1 & .2.
Relevant and useful information would be much easier to find and the oppositional viewpoints would perhaps be contained to their respective forums.
Sorry, but the number of moderators should be increased. The 991 portion of this site should have their own moderators, and many as needed. Two levels perhaps, one with authority to boot people as well as delete posts, and another level just to delete posts. Whoever volunteers, is a member, and has a record of following the "Terms of Use", sign 'em up. Violators of the "Terms of Use" get booted by the super mods.
Maybe what is necessary is competition and alternatives?
991.1 people have nothing to add in 991.2/992 threads and only post the same thing about engine noise over and over and over.
991.2 people do not care and frankly 991.1 people have nothing of substance to add in threads about the modern cars.
One might argue that there’s more to it than exhaust note. A 991.1 owner might argue that the 991.2 people have nothing of substance to add to the discussion. A 991.1 owner likely considers his or her car to be “modern”. Yours is a silly argument.
Why should 991 owners argue at all? Can’t we get back to bashing 997 owners? The 992 is coming soon, then we can all bash 992 owners and complain about how the 991 (.1 or .2) was the last real Porsche, it’s raw and visceral. Blah, blah, blah.
To the moderators,
Respectfully, I think that moderators have a hard job and do it commendably. I don't understand ,however, why a perfectly good thread (992 thread until recently) gets closed because one or two bad actors can't control themselves. It's like being locked in a room with preschool children. Why can't those individuals be suspended for a certain length of time instead of "punishing" the rest of us. The 991 Forum has become so tiresome. So many threads get hijacked by the same individuals to the same topic.
+1, and more like "forum killer."
It's a pity to see a thread interesting to many RLers locked because of a couple of bad actors who just can't seem to help themselves—this after they've derailed so many other threads. They should be get a looooong time out or be barred for good. Curious: Do moderators have that power? My prediction if they don't: RL members won't keep paying to put up with "Users" who continually ruin threads.
Also, and this is just my take, but I don't agree that the 991 forum should be split due to a difference in induction. The cars are extremely similar in a number of ways, and I'd prefer to be able to learn from the wisdom of 991.1 drivers—from chassis stuff to interior stuff to all manner of stuff. If anything, RL is already too segmented, and forums that are further segmented usually turn into ghost towns.
I don't really care which version someone drives or prefers, so long as they have something of value to contribute. Bickering, insults, and forum rage don't count. C'mon folks, we're better than that, right?
Agreed I thought Corvette forums was bad until I joined this place.
Practically all forums I follow have flair-ups, just a bit different from forum to forum. The Corvette forum has its old-fart rednecks with guns, the BMW M4 has its rich kids talking trash...
I’ve been on RL for several years now back to early 996 launch under different names. It’s always been a little contentious but I do remember the 996 TT and 997 TT forums being very active and really informative.
As a new Turbo S owner I find the 991 TT forum a bit of a desert for activity. This is entertaining and I was here for many years too but it sure has gotten more personal and judgmental. Everybody needs to drive more, share experiences more and throw tantrums less.
I love these cars. I will mod appearance and performance as I feel that is what’s great about these cars. I’ll post it for those interested. If you’re not interested don’t read it , move on and don’t pop in just to post a derogatory comment. I agree with some that this is becoming a difficult place to visit if your just looking for info and personal experiences about YOUR CAR.

not that there is anything wrong with rednecks with guns. Right?
This has an easy fix. When you see a post you don't like, click the little red triangle below their screen name and avatar. Report the post. Type "trolling" as the reason you are reporting the post. Takes less than 30 seconds.
The Mods will clean it up. The more Rennlisters reporting, the better.
Offenders will get infraction points. Enough infraction points, you get time off, 2-4 weeks. After that, or more severe, you get banned. Yes, our Mods have banning power, they don't need IB's permission.
