No, you are not alone. I don't like all the black easily scratched plastic/acrylic/gorilla glass or whatever material black surround around the shifter area. It looks not too different from the black glass rear lit touch panel in my thermador home ovens. A smudge magnet that thing is. See, looks the same

At least the oven panel is glass and it doesn't scratch (as compared to other ovens with the same "look", but with plastic buttons).

That's it, the new 992's interior design heretofore shall be known as simply, the oven.

I think it looks great inside and out. It is lighter so will likely perform better too.

Like the 992, one has to be a Porsche "expert aesthete" to see the differences on the outside. I recall how so many who studied magazines thought the current 991 console was overdone and complex. I love the buttons on my 991 and on my Macan and hope the new design is as easy and intuitive to use.

My wife isn't a car person but she's been telling me how much she likes the Cayenne. I may just add it to the list of our next SUV. Besides, when I buy my first 911, I'll get less flack from the wife. I like the idea of 2 P-cars in my garage as well!
I like that fact that the base model will get the turbo with improved performance and that the interior resembles the Panamera. Once again, we'll wait until we see it in person.

I like it. Well maybe not the interior, but I do like the exterior. Looks more muscular. I am really enjoying the RAS on my 911 GTS. I suspect this will work it's way into all Porsches.
I don't know why they didn't include PDK in the car. Is it too expensive?

Does not play well with towing.

Agreed, interior looks much less opulent and more industrial. Our Cayenne Diesel with the walnut interior and Luxor beige has a high end corporate jet feeling. I would never put that wood in my 911, but it really works in the Cayenne.

Not sure I like the blunted front end, the 958 has a more rounded, deeper nose that blends downward. The rear end treatment is interesting. Current Cayenne hatches kind of look like the Nissan Rogue, now they look like the Lincoln MK(?). The base Cayenne was really due for power increase, I wonder if they went far enough.

I like it actually. I think this is one of those designs that has to grow on people. Thought I'd never buy one, it's a step up IMO.

For me, this is the most interesting feature in the new Cayenne that I predict will migrate to the 992:

"With the optional Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) roll stabilisation, sporty drivers benefit by changing from a hydraulic to an electric system. This switch is made possible by a powerful 48-volt vehicle electrical system"

That is a 48-volt system.

People seem to like the appliance inspiration. Maybe it will sound like a vacuum cleaner also?

The front is ok, the rear is where they really screwed the pooch.
