You have data on this?

By durability do you mean mechanical breakage or media capacity that gets used up?

I changed mine before 2k miles, partly for old-school reassurance and partly for an opportunity to see how to do it (documented in my oil change thread).

Let's keep score on the age and profession of those guys recommending not to follow the manual and change oil early? Probably guys who are used to engines with low tolerances and not high performance engines that were designed and machined with computer precision. If you are going to change at 2000 miles.....why not 1000, or 500? Same logic. This is purely a feel good measure. Manual and factory engineers etc all say it is not necessary and not recommended. You increase the risk of stripping something too every time you change the oil (small risk but not zero)

The official recommendation does not come from anonymous people on the internet. It comes from your manual.

Your dealer is wrong on the frequency. OP should look at his manual and service reminder in his MFD. It's 20k miles on the 991.2. Engineers won over the lawyers on this point. The increase in frequency to 20k for the new 911s was discussed in another thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/9986...-services.html

Wrong. 10,000 miles or yearly.

Really? This is true on your 991.1 but not on the 991.2. My MFD in my 2018 991.2 says 20k miles. Same with the OP in the other thread. Manual says to follow service reminder in your MFD for scheduled maintenance.

If I am wrong on the frequency, I will own up to it but show me where it says 10k miles for the 2018s. OP owns a .2 not a .1.

Subshooter, putting the MFD aside for now, doesn't your car come with a Maintenance Booklet, that a dealership would stamp, for example? What does it say?

Back in about 2005/2006 Porsche had a 20,000 miles oil change interval on the 987/997. In about 2 years, they revised that to the 10,000 mile level.

Maybe your MFD is registering in kilometers?

Good thought since I did European Delivery but the MFD was definitely in miles (at 20k miles). Same with OP in this thread. https://rennlist.com/forums/991/9986...-services.html

I don't have my car back yet from Europe so I can't check the service interval in the scheduled maintenance booklet. Car is sitting at my dealership so when I get it Saturday or Tuesday, I will look it up and post back in this thread to ensure we and I are not spreading false information. I will include pictures of MFD service interval as well.

Hi Subshooter, isn't the MFD also some sort of an algorithm; taking current readings, data, and metrics, applying those, and then extrapolating out into a predicted future? It's dynamic.

It will be interesting to find out more.

All good. Thanks.

Booklet says oil change every 10 or 1 year, additional maintenance 20 or 2 years. Plus this is what car connect shows real time

I would believe the oil change is 1 year or 10K miles at the latest and the Maintenance service is every other perhaps:
