Windshield replacement?
Thx Bob, but unfortunately dealer here does not do windshields. Therefore that is part of my concern dealing with a 3rd party, albeit what seems like a very reputable shop. Alternative is to live with chipped/scratched windshield, as it is not busted. I recall some posts here mentioning wind noise or other issues, so was just trying to get a sense again on if this is routine and likely no issues, or buyer beware.
Yes, if you have LCA, you will need to go to the dealer for a recalibration of the sensors and an alignment. If you don't do that, you will get a fault.
Total cost for me was around $2000 at the dealer. They did not do the glass themselves but outsourced it. Then did the LCA stuff afterwards.
Insurance covered all except for the broken glass deductible. It did involve the Porsche service advisor spending time on the phone with the insurance company.
I called several auto glass replacement places before going to see the dealer. They all used OEM glass made by Sekurit. Just look for the logo to double check.

To confirm, is the alignment a wheel alignment or LCA alignment? (ie LCA calibration and LCA alignment)
I am surprised to see so many people going with Safelite. I had horrific experience with them replacing windshield on my wifes 535Xi. wrong part first time bad install second time, Adhesive oozing out. bad fitment. Re-install was needed, chipped and scratched paint to the tune of over a grand to fix.
And no matter what they tell me the OEM had a tiny bit of a tint to it, i think it was polarized ooor something and what ever they installed is thinner and cheaper with no tint what so ever. - i lost that battle unfortunately.
Eventual complained to Statefarm and had them take care of repairs and recover money form Safelite.
While i was in their office (one of many times i had to stop by) i saw how they were installing them on other cars and i tell you, you don't want to know how careless and shady they are with their work.
Best results i've gotten was with local guys.

I've had two windshields replaced on the cars I've owned, both times were local outfits recommended by the dealers and using the OEM glass not an equivalent. Both were done seamlessly.
There's an outfit in the Orlando, FL area that got excellent reviews and replaced the glass in my Merc without an issue. Safelite reviews were spotty.
