Windshield replacement?
#16
This just happened to me on Sunday on my way back from a morning mountain drive. I have an appointment at the local Safelite facility on 8/5 for a replacement windshield paid for through insurance. We'll see how it turns out.

When Safelite replaced my glass they told me if the car is less than one year old they have to use OEM glass. Older than one year the Insurance company will make them use non OEM glass. This is with Statefarm in Colorado

Nope just a single loose pine cone that bounced off my car. It was a really windy day as I was turning into my work parking lot. I was already reluctant to go down the street w pine cones and branches scattered everywhere. I'm just glad it did not crack my glass roof!

As a data point - I wen't through this with a Cayenne windshield a few years back and there were basically three choices the local glass place gave me : 1) Cheap and Chinese. 2) Expensive and OEM 3) OEM priced in-between but without the official Porsche part number stamped on it.
Basically it was the exact same glass (Pilkington from memory) that comes either with a Porsche part number ($$$$) or without a Porsche part number ($$). I saved a few hundred bucks and went without the part number.

I'm surprised. I had a windshield replaced several years ago. When I told them I wanted Porsche OEM glass, they told me that due to the low volume, no one else makes it than Porsche and not to worry. The glass had a Porsche stamp in it.
BTW - The insurance company paid about $1,100 for it and cost me $50 since it was under the comprehensive part of the policy.

Had mine replaced with OEM Porsche glass by a 3-rd party through the dealer. Was done properly with no issues. I paid $50, while the rest of about $1100, if I remember it correctly, was covered by my Farmers insurance due to my comprehensive and OEM parts policy coverage.

This has to be one of those State Farm commercials..."know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two"?

I cracked mine within 1000 miles of getting my GTS, and my insurance company farmed it out to Safelite. They used OEM glass and everything has been perfect since. They said OEM was the only option.
