I had a few superficial pits repaired by mobile windshield specialist recommended by dealer. The chips are smooth now but the spots are no less visible. Luckily, they're far out of my view on the passenger side. Since they're new they do bother me however. So I took it to Satellite to see if they can polish it. They said they never polish with windshield on and suggested I live with the tiny spots. I did inquire about a replacement for any future issues. They said it's not big deal installing them. BUT the technician said the piece of black plastic surrounding the glass between the gaps may never be as smooth. He said it's not weather stripping so functionally it's not an issue. I wonder if anyone noticed that who had a replacement. Zoomed in. Looks more pronounced in this picture. But flat after repair. Lower one is the chip, and the ones above are the ricochet marks.

Not sure what you mean by black plastic but will have to take a look.
There are no Porsche approved shops here or within hundreds of miles, so the one has done several Porsche windshields apparently in the past. I am not a bit concerned whether I want to replace it in the end. Is it an easy job or can it be botched badly?
If you have lance change assist I read that you will need it adjusted after by your Porsche dealership AND an alignment?? I read that somewhere online...is that true?
Is it an easy job re: wires and hooking up everything back after? I am scared my interior somehow is going to get damaged over this windshield replacement...realize that is over-reacting likely but car is still fairly new.
A little help if possible. I just spoke to Geico as I have a good size rock chip in my windshield.
They tell me I have full repair or replacement coverage. If I want OEM I may have to pay the difference. Anyone know what that could be?
And has anyone had a repair that didn't make it worse.

Porsche outsources the glass replacement. OEM glass is approximately $600 - $700 plus the sealant kit. When you factor in labor you are somewhere between $1200 - $1500. I was informed aftermarket glass is a roughly $300 - $400. Call Safelite for a quote.

Safelight replaced the windshield on my Mercedes. Same reason - the dealer sends it out anyway and that was where my insurer sent me. I didn't gripe because they had ok'd using the factory glass because of all the sensors, HUD and other frippery on that car which was what I cared about. (In truth, it is because I wanted the little Karl Benz signature in the corner. I'm shallow. Look what I drive) They did an ok job, I had to adjust one of the covers on the left A-pillar, because the tech couldn't figure out how to get it back in correctly and the gap was driving me nuts. As far as the windshield goes, it's been good.
Yes, if you have LCA, you will need to go to the dealer for a recalibration of the sensors and an alignment. If you don't do that, you will get a fault.
Total cost for me was around $2000 at the dealer. They did not do the glass themselves but outsourced it. Then did the LCA stuff afterwards.
Insurance covered all except for the broken glass deductible. It did involve the Porsche service advisor spending time on the phone with the insurance company.
I called several auto glass replacement places before going to see the dealer. They all used OEM glass made by Sekurit. Just look for the logo to double check.

Thank you very much for that. I thought I had read but could not confirm about the recalibration and alignment.

You are right - Safelight did send the car over to the MB dealer to do the re-calibration. I forgot about that. It is why it took them a whole day to finish
Again looking for comments on whether replacing a windshield is a difficult job for a good installer? I am worried (based on only stupid fears likely) that there is a chance to have issues after replacement, ie wind noise, leaks, etc. Plus it seems like a big job to me to perform and worried about damage to my car. Assume I have nothing to worry about?

There is nothing to worry about and you can even have your dealer do it. Many here have had it done and the overwhelming majority had no issues. Besides, what is the alternative? You cannot drive around with a busted windshield!

Thx Bob, but unfortunately dealer here does not do windshields. Therefore that is part of my concern dealing with a 3rd party, albeit what seems like a very reputable shop. Alternative is to live with chipped/scratched windshield, as it is not busted. I recall some posts here mentioning wind noise or other issues, so was just trying to get a sense again on if this is routine and likely no issues, or buyer beware.
