With 40k miles on my car, I'm getting quoted $7-$9k USD for a 3-year third party warranty (full coverage but no maintenance), depending on mileage driven. That seems ridiculous and is tempting me to just trade it in for a CPO 991.2 TTS that has 3-4 years factory warranty remaining.

Seems to be like cards - know when to hold 'em, know when to fold...

I think $10k for another 4 years is about the limit of my comfort.

It will cost me about $4k for 3 more years as I'm over 30k miles. I'm still leaning toward self insuring. PDK is my only big concern and I might just play the odds. I'm not launching it every weekend and abusing it and car has been a rock.
2 Fast $10k for 4 years just seems to make self insuring a better choice. Unless you have had issues. It's all about what works for you.

I find it interesting the contrast of warranties between the US and Canada - you would think Porsche would benefit by keeping control of the services rendered throughout North America.

You would think so.
I assume your car has been strong too. If so why drop $10k on a warranty?
I know we re all paranoid about what might happen but the cars have proven themselves to be very strong cars. There are guys in RL that have 3 times the mileage I have without major issues.

This thread is where I got the $16-20k estimate. I have never heard of $25k.

Soon it will be $30K to repair. Its this type of paranoia that drives us here to buy extended warranties for several thousand $'s on cars that have had minimal issues. In particular the TT cars. I think I will hold and self insure on any issues going forward after my warranty expires in June.

This is what I purchased at time of purchase with my '19 last April. I had never purchased an extended warranty (on anything) prior to my '14 Viper, this 911. and a new Mercedes last month. For $4000 or less for a 2 year factory extension in each case I felt I could justify the expense with likelihood of easier resale if I sell, and a little more peace of mind if I keep. It's the much higher level of complexity and parts cost on new vehicles that has encouraged me to buy warranties now. In the past it seems some parts were repaired if that was cost effective where now they just replace without regard for cost. Sounds like a full PDK replacement instead of repair could be a good example...yikes!

I agree...a very modest investment for much piece of mind..and of course when things need repairing and replacing...items deemed otherwise fine when the cost is to the dealer... add up quickly when it's on our dime...

Nobody wants to incur major maintenance costs, whether in the form of an outlay to purchase an extended warranty or paying for actual repairs. You can avoid both by selling the car before your warranty expires but then you take a catastrophic depreciation hit. If you own a car you love and look after then you're likely going to be tens of thousands ahead by holding on to it and paying for the extended warranty and/or forking out for the odd repair, even at $5000 a pop.

I'm sure the 992 Turbo will be better in some respects but the 991 is so good that I can't imagine any improvements being game changers that would make me want to fork out tens of thousands to have. But I could be first in line for the 992's replacement which surely will be propelled entirely differently.

Now having said that, when I bought a new 2010 Jaguar XK-R vert I knew I'd want to unload it while still under the original factory warranty and gladly took the depreciation hit to avoid a predictable painful ownership experience. When I bought a new '14 Viper TA I thought I'd want to do the same but as the factory warranty period was approaching expiry I couldn't imagine ever wanting to part with the car so I bought the factory extended warranty taking it out to 7 years and will gladly pay for repairs out of pocket after that. Normally aspirated sports cars with a stick are a dying breed but you can always count on Porsche to come up with appealing models!

I am looking into getting into a McLaren 720s. From what I read in the McLaren forum and inquiry with third party warranty companies, Porsche is relatively cheap. Thus far, I cannot find any (reputable) third party company that will offer 3rd party warranty for 720s. For McLaren, depending on which dealership you talk with, it ranges from $6k to 9k PER YEAR for extended warranty. This may a dealer breaker for me to get into a 720s.

I love the Mac , but, do a vin search on the sequence of 720’s to avoid. When I had my ZO6, a couple of guys on that forum had 720’s in the “bad vin zone” and had to give them up. Kept getting flatbedded to the dealership.

16 - 20k + labor, fluids and shop supplies will bring you pretty close to, if not surpass, $25k.

I saved my pennies when I was a kid and bought a 1970 XKE vert in 1975 as my first car. Special memories naturally and I wanted to mark early retirement with its 40 year newer successor. Lovely car but a relief to trade it in on the Viper before the warranty expired
