Was it a six or a twelve? Very cool car, the old ones.

The Viper should give you miles of smiles...

It was a Series II E-Type which were a 4.2L 6... half way through MY71 they switched to 12 cylinder with a lengthened body. I sold it after 8 years to a collector in Vancouver with 39.000 miles and he shipped it back home for restoration. Heck, you may have seen it!

65,000 kms on the TA, 16,0000 on TS.... and massive smiles all the way! Just prior to putting her away for winter...

Very nice! I had a house master in boarding school that had a v12 (convertible) and he took me for a ride in it once... it has stuck with me all these years - I loved the sound of the 12 and rowing through the 4 speed, and the lines - to die for. I would miss a toy like that.

A buddy of mine up the valley has a GTS version of the above; perhaps down on power compared to yours, but a smile machine no less. I suspect you never put snowies on it...

He had the best of the Series III V12s with the manual as shortly after they were all automatics, and not very good ones. The wonderful organic lines of that car have stuck with me and guided many choices, including the Viper and most recently the Turbo S. And no snows on the Viper...just R compounds Randy Pobst set the production car record at Laguna Seca in this model on stock R's ...and since beat it in the 991.2 TS on its stock Pirelli.

It is interesting how the old Jags influenced modern design, especially when Jag introduced the F-Type - clearly drawn upon from history.

I had no idea that the TTs held the production car record at Laguna; my little brother used to campaign Miata's there until he got transferred to the east coast. I understand it is a highly technical track and the ease of going off it is high, well beyond my capabilities for sure!

Neat toys Bruce, winter must be grating on you...

Here's the website with fastest laps for each car set mostly by Randy Pobst...https://fastestlaps.com/tracks/laguna-seca-post-1988. Note the top 5 are not production models.

While he set the production car track record in the Viper TA back in 2013 there have been quite a few cars come along that were quicker. While the TTS never set the record, it did run a slightly quicker time in 2017 than the Viper TA did in 2013. I believe the Viper ACR held the record in 2017 and was then beat by the 911GT2RS.

Winter is a good time to focus on other things, and I must say it's looking like a beautiful month here in Nuevo Vallarta

Thank you for that, very interesting.

Looks like Randy has best himself in a Mclaren Senna, 1.3 seconds better than the GT2RS - bloody quick!

This thread is a good compilation of info on PDK failures/repair. It's specific to 997, but virtually all of it also applies to 991.

there is a shop in So Cal that repairs PDKs. It would be cost effective to ship a car to them for repair rather than pay the Porsche replacement ransom.

That, my friends, is most certainly worth a read.

I most likely would not feel confident in DIY, but it does demonstrate that it can be fixed in a reasonable manner.

Thank you for this. The problem I see is that the majority will be stuck with replacement, if they are not comfy DIY.

This begs the questions and may warrant it's own thread...Who has ever experienced a PDK issue...how was it manifested..at what mileage..what were the traits...how was it repaired/replaced (rebuild/new or otherwise) and what was the cost of repair (or warranty)

I have not seen much at all on PDK failures on the TT and TTS cars. I too would like to know about fellow drivers who have had issues and what remedies they chose.
