It would be interesting to know what the PDKs failure rate is across the entire Porsche line.

The reason they do an entire 'replacement' than a 'fix' is most likely due to the fact that most of the Porsche techs aren't trained tranny guys - similar with most, if not all, manufacturers. Simply have a contract with a tranny company (in this case ZF) and let them deal with it.

Porsche extended warranty is through a 3rd party and as usual more expensive. Surprise.

If your primary concern is the pdk you can get a drive train only warranty with $250 deductible from Fidelity for under $500/ yr that covers engine, trans, differentials and axles (I think that's all). Try Sunset Audi in Oregon...they sold me one for my 997.1tt.

PDK is really my only concern. That's a good suggestion.

I've emailed the dealer in Alberta - I think I am going to conduct a costing exercise on this.

Well, this is an unexpected response from the dealer...

Hi Andrew,

Sorry for the slow reply, I was off from December 20th to today. The warranty is 4 years or 80,000 kilometers from June 11, 2018. You are able to purchase a warranty extension until the end of the warranty but with it being past the first year you will need to get an inspection done. With the car being in Vancouver you would have to deal with the service department there to purchase the warranty unless you plan on having the car here before the warranty expires; the inspection has to go with the warranty application so it would all have to be done through Porsche Vancouver. If the car made it’s way here we could do the extension for you.

Porsche warranty, but it must be 'approved' before being issued. Is this the same in the states? Makes one wonder what you would do if your application was 'denied'...

Andrew, you can get a bit more info from this

Like Penn said, it's through 3rd party. I've been told, you cant buy it past warranty. Not 100 sure. Dealers are inconsistent on this topic..

I too, would need to verify that the car isn’t already broken before you want me to insure it.

If you don’t buy AppleCare for your AirPods at time of purchase, Apple requires you to bring them in store to verify they aren’t broken before you can buy AppleCare.

Appreciated - I will see how similar they are between the States and Canada tomorrow.
