Took the S on a little trip to see a private collection- got to ride in a 904 and a real factory 914-6 GT (which was really something for a dedicated 914 guy)
Bought a COBB V3 with PDK tuning and tuned it tonight.
For now, I'm simply using the COBB off the shelf, Stage 2 Standard Boost Response map for crappy California 91 gas...coupled with the OEM+ PDK tune.
Car is noticeably faster and PDK is transformed. Much sharper and more aggressive shifting. Not much time in it with a short drive in rush hour traffic but definitely feeling and liking the difference.
I can't wait to try the 100oct map. The tank's running pretty low and have a 100 oct Sunoco pump about 10 min from the house. May have to fill up and bring a can home in the frunk.
Next on the list should like be IC's and the DSC module...and when it makes sense, have Sam do a custom tune.

The 904 should have been all grins. Didn't that model have a twin cam motor?
Did some testing again on 60 ft (with 1 foot rollout) but this time changing the launch technique.
Not using the Launch control but only using sport mode (not sport +) and instead of letting the break go and applying 100 % Wot (which produced mediocre results 60 feet around 2 sec) I kind of break boosted maintaining left foot on the break and keeping rpm with right foot at around 1000.
This produced consistent 1.80 -85 60 feet times with a best of 1.77.
This was in 35 F temperature, 4 year old Pirelli Sottozero snow tires (33 psi front , 35 psi rear).
The car is stock 2015 991.1 turbo s.
Then after all that enjoyed another night feature of the turbo, the ability it has to raise the dust from the street when applying 100% Wot .. seeing the dust cloud in the mirror from the headlights of the poor car behind who wanted to play is a beautiful sight 🤣🤣
love the turbo
Well, that sounds very good! And you want to change it - how is it under load?
In the end, I think I just want something somewhere more in the middle...while retaining some of the burbles/popping and most importantly...turbo spool.
The only way to take the edge off of this full 3" catless is to put on OEM cats (which will seemingly delete the turbo spool noises that I want), or by paying another $750-1000 to have cat resonator tubes made (which I don't want to spend the $ on).
I will just try going to cat bypass tubes with the OEM exhaust for now. That will seemingly get me more of the sound I want, while not being as loud/aggressive.
I liked being super aggressive with my 996 Turbo but for whatever reason, I just want the 991 to be a little more tame than it is now.
Soul bypass tubes will be going in on Tuesday, with the stock muffler setup. If I like it, the SpeedTech will already go up for sale. Later, I may go to a Kline (just not spending that $$ right now).
It should sound like this (Soul cat bypass with OEM muffler):
Interesting - on my 996 I went with the 3" 100DPI cats - it is louder, but I find it quite tolerable as the cats, even though very low restriction, still act as a bit of a muffler, as it were. Full disclosure - my hearing isn't all that great, so I can see why this may be a little loud for you.
With that, I still think it sounds pretty sweet. The Kline stuff is also very well made. I saw a video of your 996 with the Unobtanium exhaust on it - I would love to have one of those, but there seem to be some absolute horror stories about delivery times, so that has somewhat turned me off.

Unobtainium was a really killer exhaust. Aggressive without the drone, due to their resonator tubes. Those tubes really worked. Sound was very exotic and unique. System was a work of art with the weld quality.
The rub, yeah, the wait. I ended up putting 200 cell HJS cats on the system (to tone it down a tad as you did with your ST) but it took them 8 months to deliver cats. My system came fairly fast but others I've heard get the run around. He's just a small shop that is way overbooked it seems. Be realistic though, don't take an order and have people follow up 10x and keep saying, next week, next week, next week...etc. They need to run and manage their business and customer service better, that's for sure.
