Why do people believe the .2 GT3 is "more reliable" than the .1 RS? Seems like we have very little data on either.

^ Because of the 763 items that changed on the .2GT3's engine. Seems like we have a lot of data on both.

Again, enlighten us on any RS valve train failures. Still waiting. 2015 GT3R ran flawlessly with RS lump. Trakcar has, what 30000 some miles mostly track use. Plenty of RSs seeing hard use on tracks all over world. 0 valve train problems that we know of. The old GT3RS press car with 40000 beater miles is still running strong and was recently run by Chris Harris against the AMG GTR with the ol' RS still coming out on top.

.2GT3 has totally different engine than 997GT3. Not much in reliability issue there either. So?

19,000 miles.
My back went out, car has been sitting but the Blackstone oil report looks good.

Road America, Thunderhill, Sonoma and Buttonwillow will be adding mikes in August, September and October.

I hope to be at 30,000 miles soon enough, but not yet.

Hell of a lot of track miles regardless. Impressive. 👍

many changes yes.
but when 997 ==> 991, even more change.
all porsche are reliable.
sure they blow up every so often and some even catch on fire
in the family we have had 911 since 78. trust me, engine blowing up is nothing. we seen it all. if that bothers you... try JDM they are much more reliable.

but eveyrone has their take on thing.
i will ALWAYS take an RS over non RS
i dont care about reliability or ring time.
i just want the "RS"

sure Mooty, I'll just trust you that an engine blowing up is nothing. 😬

Engines blowing up and/or catching fire is not a Porsche exclusive. Run any car hard and it has happened to them all on occasion, all brands all sizes. I've seen Miatas throw a rod. In fact, last month at Lime Rock an M4 and a CAMARO SS 1LE both took a dump and left on stretchers

in fact as a "data point" did you include an RSR going Super Nova recently in WEC? If not please make note. That's your .2 lump right there or so guys want to think.

My point was that all we know about the .2 GT3 is on paper. The reliability claims would seem to require some reasonable amount of time on the road/track to see the results.

Also - number of changes to the motor doesn't seem like a good proxy for reliability. I bet there were way more than 763 changes from the 997.2 motor to the 991.1 motor - and look where that got us.

there is no doubt that .1GT3 issues were due to PAG overreach with a hydraulic valved motor to 9000 rpms and all that requires i.e stiff valve springs, high pressures etc

I do wonder about the non-hydraulic valvetrain of the .2 GT3 and how Porsche alleges it will never need adjustment. The word that jumps to mind is 'hubris.'

I hope they are right though and the .2 GT3 engine is very durable and robust.

^^ this right here.....having owned a GT3 for over 2 years and an RS for 2 days I don't care how good the 991.2 GT3 is.....not a chance in hell I would ever consider it over the .1RS.....

There is no doubt something special about the RS. It gives me the same sense of "occassion" when I drive it as I get in my FGT. Even approaching for a drive makes my heart race just looking at it.

I'm just the opposite than you guys/girls about the GT3 and the GT3rs. I like the less "in your face" look of the GT3 and the molded fixed wing over the look of the RS. To me the RS looks like it sits so high riding on those 21's(stock, not lowered) and the wing looks too import looking, like an afterthought. The only other real fast track car out there(common, that we see a lot) with a wing like that is the ACR, the Italian companies and AMG GTR make just as much downforce with less wing, more underbody or active aero. Since I drive my cars, I could care less about resale since in reality these cars are not investments. I feel just as special driving my GT3 than you all in your RS's. If I was going to step up and spend more money(over 200k) than my .2 GT3 coming(184k), my choice would definitely not be a .1 GT3RS, I would be going the McLaren or used 458/488 route. Just my opinion, we all have our own and I guarantee we are all happy with our choices of cars owned.
