Well first impressions of Sofia, other than it being 0c out (which is damn cold, but not unbearable), very good. Saw a few Porsche’s. No GT cars lol.
hotel is nice. Dinner was very good!
never had a bone in pork chop done like schnitzel and it was damn good. Small local restaurant near hotel.
salad reminded me of a Greek style salad.
beer and wines were very good.
And.
a nice meal for 2 at $45 us! Wow.
How long are you in Sofia I was invited there twice to speak and have a connection there
food here is quite good. Co workers brought us to a traditional Bulgarian restaurant. The cheese, yogurt, breads, salads, and grilled meats are all great.
didn’t expect to see fire walkers. It was like 15 out up in the mountain where this lodge type restaurant was.
i was disappointed there was no bear wrestling lol
I've spent a great deal of time over the last 10 years in and around Minsk, Belarus - that part of the world is fascinating for those of us who grew up in the US during the cold war. Especially in the last five years, there has been a lot of modernization and growth - and it's not hard to find great food. I've always found the people to be extremely welcoming and down to Earth. Enjoy your trip!
Gjelina - Great Cali food. Amazing pizzas Book ahead. Busy
Cassia - cali / Vietnamese cuisine. Great spot too. Naan bread and chick pea curry. Pork tails with lettuce wrap
Great suggestions, Gjelina and Cassia.
If I may, a couple more, just in case - two of my favorites, as a local - Tar & Roses (try their whole snapper, and gnocchi appetizer). If you are into wine, Wally's has the best by the glass selection and great kitchen and cheeses as well - they have locations in Beverly Hills and Santa Monica. I like the one in SM better - Right by the beach in Santa Monica. Both walking distance from major hotels. If you like donuts, Sidecar on Wilshire and 7th.

It looks like real traditional eastern European/Slavic food lots of pork, good cheeses, good bread and plenty to drink I was also invited to Siberia, I couldn’t get over the fact that they drink vodka like we drink water

this is about as far as I’ll dive into eastern bloc. I still can’t get over how affordable things are relative to the us. We are moving one of our team to Atlanta next month, think his salary will 4-5x for similar life style. Well. It is a bit warmer in Atlanta hahaha. Couldn’t do Palo Alto he’d not survive.
