PTS 991.2 GT3: worth itt?
#18
I like breadth of experience and "mission specific" as you build out a garage. The Speciale, GT3 and GT4 all seem to compete for similar territory. The 993 meanwhile brings a very different driving experience while adding retro nostalgia in a way newer cars will only be able to replicate decades from now, if ever...
There will always be another latest and greatest. I'd personally hang onto the 993.

Keep the 993.
And tell your dealer that I'll pay $10k over for that PTS allocation...

Don't sell the 993, I sold mine and regret it. The 991 is a boat compared to the 993, and not as enjoyable on back roads.

I'm confused by all these posts saying they have a PTS allocation. I am working with Exclusive on my build and they were very adamant just a few days ago that no dates have been confirmed for PTS. Only that Q4 is possible time frame. If true then congrats! I've been trying to get one for years without any luck.
Perhaps the VIPs have an inside edge, whatever form that takes. For everyone else, a PTS build is far from certain.

any model. Look how few of them qualified
to get PTS on the 911R.
The fact is that the PTS window for the .2
991 gt3 has not yet been announced by PAG.
Right now, Porsche Exclusive reps in Atlanta
are telling us that their best estimate of when
that window might open is at the beginnng
of the 4th Quarter in 2017. And even after
the PTS window opens, PAG might limit the
PTS slots for the .2 991 gt3 to the point that
very few of the dealers with allocations for
those time periods will end up with a PTS
slot for their Porsche customers.
I have been following PTS at Porsche for a
long time & I am not convinced that they'll
allow that many PTS slots for the .2 991 gt3s.
I personally believe that there will be less
slots than perhaps even those allowed for
the .1 991 gt3 RS. And we know how limited
PTS was during the three years of .1 991 gt3
production. In fact, they basically didn't approved
any in MY2016 and had the 'PTS moratorium'
during most of MY2015. And not that many
were allowed in MY2014, regardless the 'Stop
Sale'. Quality issues have been overcome, if
we are to believe the reports. But PAG is still
not willing to expand PTS production for reasons
that are not too clear to me...or anyone else
for that matter.
So I just have this feeling that many here at
Rennlist will be very dissappointed if they
continue to blindly believe in some of these
'empty' promises they are hearing from their
dealers. So caveat emptor.

Don't get the hype of the 993. Owned one, couldn't understand what the big deal was. Nowhere close to a GT3 car. They made plenty of 993's as well so you can always pick another one.

Why don't you work with your dealer and order it and let them know (if you have a good rapport with them you might not take it) they will always be able to sell it and if you are getting msrp they can sell it for more. Take more time as who knows when PTS cars will actually arrive. I would not sell my 993 either (agree with other posters) but maybe something changes prior to delivery.

As others have said, the PTS game is complicated and there are less rules and more relationships to it. Right now my build is sitting in text handling (V110), but I'm told by someone in PCNA they will make sure I get a PTS slot. It will be my 4th PTS 991, but I always take an approach of until I have the keys it isn't guaranteed.
Also don't get sucked into the hype of additional value for PTS cars - condition/rarity is still number one. Yes a bubble wrapped PTS RS will out perform a non-PTS bubble wrapped car but driven vs driven you're waiting around for a buyer that loves the color to pay a premium vs moving on quickly to the next car. I always opt to move on quickly...

To clear things up, yeah PTS only makes the new car more tempting. Basically the 2 for 1 car is close to an even swap, so overall cost neutral.
Have 2 kids in private college so getting or keeping them all is not an option.
I know "first world problems".but I figure this board might be the best place to help sort out my thoughts.....

which entitrely supports "very few" PTS allocations vs everyone stating "they've got one"
hell, the U.S configurator does not even display an option for PTS!

Signal Yellow
Voodoo Blue
Arena Red (Bit flashy for me, but just a killer color)

Well I'm not planning anything, as the chance I get allocation, much less a PTS allocation, is slim to zilch. But...if I had PTS, I'd probably do one of the following colors:
Gulf Blue
Gulf Orange
Signal Yellow
Voodoo Blue
Arena Red (Bit flashy for me, but just a killer color)

and if they were available...
