Oooh, OOOOH.. I found some other juicy tidbits.. ready? I will employ the technology of smiley faces to convey how these should make you feel.. try to follow along please.

-"If ever there were a case for words before numbers, this is it. There’s more character lurking in this engine’s final 1000 rpm than there is in the entire rev range of the turbocharged engines powering various competitors."

" If you’re uncomfortable above 6000 rpm, this isn’t your Porsche. Because this is an engine that won’t stop pulling until your cochleae burst into flame. "

The steering is relatively light and supremely direct but lacks communication as understeer approaches. It speaks—but sometimes only in a mumble. The result is less confidence in front grip than is offered by, say, a Corvette Grand Sport.

"The most stunning properties of the GT3 are its refusal to fade, connection to the driver, and understated purposefulness."

"That this particular flavor of 911 requires great care to get right is central to its allure. That trait makes it desirable because it demands that its driver be fully involved rather than merely entertained. And that, in any car, is genius." **** YEA!!! (Sorry, couldn't find a smiley face icon for that )

And the same electric steering hardware as the 991.1 Carrera, right?

Does anyone else find it curious that there are no good pictures of the GT3 tach with manual gearbox (so you can clearly see redline and possible dotted-red caution zone)?

This is about the best I've seen (redline totally obscured intentionally??):

I loved all of those thoughts as well. I'm glad you guys do too as it really sums up why Porsche GT cars are so special to drive.

The steering quote however is rather concerning if the Vette does indeed have electric steering. Basically the GT3 is a perfect car tarnished a bit by reducing weight with electric steering. If Porsche went to Mclarens "hybrid" system of hydraulic steering run off an electric pump, it should only cost 10lbs of weight but give back so much more character.

I totally agree with the sentiment, except I'm pretty sure Porsche's decision had far more to do with cost than weight. They use a system like McLaren's in the factory 911 race cars where weight (and steering feel) is far more critical (but cost less so)...

I forget, what is the deal with the dotted-red caution zone on the .2 GT3?

Is that just for manual? If on both cars, in what situations does the caution zone apply, or when can't you rev to 9,000?

I don't understand what you guys are saying about the electric steering assist in the .2 GT3. I have read that article and it's clearly the writer's opinion, which is fine. Now,I'll be the first to admit I have criticized the steering in the GT4,it's nowhere near the hydraulic system, but it's better than in the 991.1 GT3 electric steering assist. They have tweaked it even further in the R and has been recognized as much better by several journos and owners. It's all in software improvements and I'm almost certain it's even better in the .2 GT3.

If the steering is equal to the GT4 I will be very happy. Now - I have heard and it has been mentioned by some 911R Owners; that the steering in the R is on the light-side and so is the clutch. What this means is dependent on what you like.

I like a heavier clutch.

Yup. 997 RS had clutch, gearbox, and steering nailed IMO.
