Well, he has to step aside. He ordered everything.

RS - not so much.

Hey chaosoul. Awesome thread! Quick question. Why is HUD not available for GT cars?

Due to the lack of value proposition in sticking a $250k hud in a $150k car. Also the hardware of a real hud would extend beyond the front of the vehicle.

Space restrictions on the dash of the 991 gt3s & 981 gt4s*.
And Andreas doesn't like to add any weight to his special
vehicles...unless he is forced to. And who can blame him?

My Audi RS7 has it (see similar unit on a RS6 below), but
that's a fairly new platform that was designed with having
that technology from the very start! And low weight is not
really a priority with this Audi model anyway!

HUD one of my favorite gadgets in my RS7...and it's standard
equipment on that model. A great option on this model is the
five-level & five different types 'massage seats'! 'Pulse' is very
nice! And, you don't want to ask how much weight those
'massage seats' add either!

Dewinator: We are not talking here about the 'HUD' for
the new Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. Suppliers to
the auto industry (e.g. Chevy Corvette, Audi, BMW, MB)
are offering compact HUD's at very economical prices!
Get with the program!

* As a matter of fact, does Porsche offers HUD in any model,
even the newly re-designed 'Panamera'? Nein...so PAG seems
to have a problem with offering HUD at this time even in their
larger/newer platforms!

You're of course technically correct as always, but I'd argue that since the basic windshield reflector "HUDs" on cars like the Z06 (the only car I've driven with one) don't project at optical infinity like an aircraft HUD does, you might as well just put light up rev markings on the steering wheel like Ferrari does (or maybe on the instrument cluster surround?) because the revs are what you really need.

It is baffling how some manufacturers are not using HUD. I LOVE IT. Especially when using Nav

I've had cars that have it, and I've had cars (obviously) that don't....Id MUCH prefer just a TFT screen or motec style screen with rev band and shift lights with digital speed under it than any projection.

I am not sure why Porsche would go 9,500 redline when 9,000 would satisfy everyone. 9k redline, 550hp, MT. That alone does it imo.
