This may not be popular (which feels weird saying, since we're on *the* 911R forum), but I'd take the R in a heartbeat. I have no interest in any auto tranny sports car and have never much liked Ferrari styling. People may be paying too much for Rs in the opinion of some, but it's a beautiful, highly capable machine by everything I can gather. As an aside, I recently received a letter from Porsche asking me how I was enjoying my 911R. Talk about pouring salt on the wound.

For the R's MSRP $$$, it's a GREAT car. A clear no brainer. That's the frustrating part, not an option.
At these inflated flipped prices, not worth it in my opinion. For $400K, better options in my opinion.

To me, no car is worth $400k. Come to think of it, make that $100k. And I love cars and can afford to spend on them multiples of those amounts.

The joy in experiencing my CGT wide open during a 3-4 upshift is worth well over 100k to me...
And when an escalade is 96k then i am good on spending 200 for my R

The pressure some of you guys put on yourselves is mind boggling. There are so many amazing cars to drive.
Wait in line- but remember you're supposed to live your life in between. So, go to a movie. Do a racing school. Hell maybe donate 5,000 bucks to a charity. Pay down your house 25k. Buy something else and negotiate for it. Don't give it to pay ADM to a jerk dealer.

For bothI certainly get the passion but the self created stress seems a bit silly.
Bikes (road and dirt) sure provide high joy/$$. Course, I would love to have/drive a CGT if I could afford one.

Yup, you just can't compare bikes and cars. After tracking motos for years, I don't think cars will ever give me that type of rush on the track. I rode passenger a couple of times in cars on the track and it wasn't even remotely close to being on a moto. The physical sensation of manipulating a moto around the track is like ballet on speed. Always been attracted to it like a drug. I get a similar, albeit much slower, feeling when I play ice hockey. Cars have never been able to give me that same visceral pleasure. Riding a $25,000 literbike at speed on a track is more fun and invigorating than any million dollar car could ever be.

So much of it has to do with your current financial situation. It is not that the R is really overpriced, but that it is more than my financial situation could warrant. The stretch I would have to make to buy one would be too much relative to the incremental enjoyment increase I'd get. But if you have $20+ million sitting in the bank, maybe getting one is a no-brainer?
