Not mine, but saw a blue 981 Spyder with unsecured sails going the other direction on Oahu a few days before your first post.

Default Driving Roads

Are there any decent driving roads on the Big Island of Hawaii to enjoy a Porsche?

Absolutely! I lived on O'ahu for years (not the Big Island) but was there dozens of times and thought about shipping my old ///M to the Big Island for a "car vacation". Some great roads in the south. Driving on O'ahu was terrible for most but I lived in Kailua and got to drive the mountain passes of the Pali, Likelike and H3 all the time which was fun.

On the big island the roads north of Waimea are spectacular, and on Maui the Road to Hana has hundreds of switchbacks, but can be very dangerous as it's barely two cars wide.

yea the area around Hawi is great......

Who did you all use to ship cars over with, any issues or anything you would do different? Going to send a car from Texas to Kailua.

I have yet to go to the Big Island. It is a consideration to have a house there. I have driven the Hana Hwy and found it too dangerous and/or crowded with tourists, tour buses etc. to be able to enjoy a spirited drive. Are the roads by Hawi and North of Waimea relatively less crowded at times, and is it possible to be able to open up the car some as opposed to 20-40mph sprints on the Hana Hwy?

I live on Maui and I would never take the GT3 to Hana. There's too much traffic and some crazy drivers. With the traffic we have on the island, you have to drive responsibly. It's not nearly as crowded as Oahu though.

I've only seen one other older GT3 on the island. Someone told me they saw another one that they thought was me so it may have been another 991.

Was thinking of shipping a car to the big island, but the acid rain moving across the south from Kilauea's ocean entry isn't so good for the paint.
The few police SUVs I saw have alternating roof lights going all the time just cruising around, not sure why, but seeing them in the distance gives plenty of time to slow.

Drive the Road to Hana at night, no tourists and you can tell if there’s an oncoming car around the bend.

The roads on Oahu really suck and are just getting worse. Honolulu is just like a mini LA. The Super Ferry was a great way to bring our cars to the neighbor islands but it's no longer in operation. Hopefully something like that will happen again soon; I would love to go driving on Maui or the Big Island.

We are vacationing on Maui right now, and I always look for GT cars here. I've yet to see one. Honestly, there are only a few places that seem like they would be fun in one here, but I am far from knowledgeable on good driving spots on Maui. I'm in a minivan rental anyway . I have the whole family here with me, so a fast car was not an option. I've driven the road to Hana, and agree it would be more stressful than fun with traffic. I've often wondered about taking a fast car the back way to Hana though. I've not gone that way, but I have read it is pretty desolate.

There are places on Oahu to have some fun, you just need to know where and when to go driving. I had a 991.1 gt3 but traded it this past January for a Scud. I frequent the forums every now and then. About once a quarter I go driving with friends who have supercars for a nice sunrise drive with scenic stops, good company, and good breakfast.

I've only been to Hana the back way once. At that time most of the road was not paved. That was more than 50 years ago though. I guess I'm showing my age. Going over the Pali to Lahaina would be fun but I don't take my car to that side of the island because of a section of road where waves from the ocean wash onto the road sometimes.
