the top 10% of any category cross section will always outshine the second tier 25% by a lot.
There is a 911 hierarchy- and to me it is this, in no order:
1973RS with racing/rally history
1960's-1970's 911S coupe sunroof delete
993GT2
997 4.0RS
1967 911R
996RS
964RS
993RS
997RS
997 3.8RS
993TurboS
997GT2RS
997 SportClassic
89 Speedster
964 3.6T
964 Flachbau "x51 package"
964 Cup (road legal)
964 jubilee
993 C2s/C4S
964 RS America
930
1968 soft window targa
MFI 1970's car
94 speedster
where do you slot them? well that depends on if you actually drive them or not I suppose. where does the 991RS slot in? well that depends on what kind of driver you are...this is the first paint to sample car I've ever been able to get from Porsche but I had to buy it secondhand.
I'm a younger guy so it's not like I ever had access to half of these cars new- I was 16 years old when the 993TTS debuted- quite out of my range then.
My top desirable cars out of the list-
1967 R- (lol good luck)
997 4.0 (loved my first one, working on another one always)
997 GT2RS (not yet, working on it)
993 GT2 (working on it)
993 TTS (working on it)
964RS ( no idea where to start)
73RS
most practical-
964 RS America
993TT-S (almost too easy to drive)
997RS 3.6-3.8 (folding seats= road trip car and race track hauler)
993C2S/C4S- drove one every day for 3.5 years. loved it.

The 993tts and the 4.0 (Maybe include the 997gt2rs.)
The reason they stand out is that there are more bubble wrapped cars out of those two.
Almost impossible to find bubble wrapped 964rs CS or 993rs CS. The 996RS followed in the same footsteps.
Back on topic about summer prices.
If OP is ok to wait a couple of months it will save him a bit of money. Prices short term is only going one way on RS. (Not only 991rs)
A non configurable car will be Msrp before the end of the year. (Someone dropped out or dealer spec)
Reason is that Porsche still makes more of these and prices are going down and cars are sitting.
If you want it today it seems like you have to pay $30k over.

For those that think 991rs is produced in 5000-6000 units. That is a lie.
4000 991gt3s was produced from 2014-2016. (Obviously including stop sale)
Porsche have been pushing production on 991rs very hard because of high demand, so I think we will see total production in the 3000unit range.
Buyers are drying up in the $250k bracket. Dealers will have to sell at MSRP. Those dealers that speculated will take a bath. Free market works both ways.

Aren't dealers still getting over msrp on GT3s?
Do you think dealers will be selling next gen GT3s at msrp? Do you think GT2s will be going for msrp?
Anyone?

Agree with the sentiment here that RS prices will drop down to list, but that means for the 991 GT3 a substantial reduction in resale prices. Unless you are already dumped your GT3 the upgrade delta will stay the same or even get worse.
