Me too. This is the thread I always look first.. and hoping to see updates and pictures of the new parts. The level of engineering and craftsmanship is just so awesome. And taking full advantage of modern technology I suppose.
The titanium windshield wiper mechanism that was designed and built for my 964. Weight is 2.3 pounds.
How is this achieved? Are you able to use a press-brake on titanium?
I'm also curious how you determine the spring rate for the titanium springs.

Yes a number of press tools were made in conjunction with the titanium windshield wiper mechanism. As to the lightweight alternator and lightweight starter, both were close to being completed when the virus required closings. Safety for people first!
911R windshield wiper mechanism ordered today. Perhaps it can be translated into carbon fiber and titanium. Also ordered a Numeric Shifter to see if some of it can be done in carbon fiber.
Mr. Linton, obviously you're doing this for the love of the car rather than profit, but I share the same passion with my BMW M3. Would you be able to take on small projects for other makes and models? I'm talking about titanium hood and trunk hinges, and maybe a few brackets. Thanks for any help. And please continue to post pictures, I love the motivation and inspiration.
Re the link re holes, it would seem to suggest that the engineers in locations such as Maranello, Munich, Stuttgart, Weissach, Woking, etc. can now be replaced by butchers with drills! Yes, given the virus, budgets are tight but not that tight!! Further, why not go the whole way and use only hand drills!!!
As to hinges, yes, with a good fabricator, they can be made out of titanium. The attached picture was never meant for publication, but it gives some examples. You could also do them out of carbon fiber with bonded aluminum or titanium inserts but, this will require, among other things (costs), mould tools and machining and will be even more expensive.
Well, I was wrong about the new design saving 45 grams per titanium con rod. After a bit more work, the real number is 100 grams per rod, or a total of 600 grams off the crank train.
