911R Weight Reduction

Hello Robert,
Where are you with brakes?
Std the R is delivered with PCCB. Have you followed up on either Brembo or Surface Transforms discs? I know the ST's offer lighter weight (250g per corner) and better performance than PCCB.
Of course looking at hat material, pads & calipers would be other avenues to loose weight.
And of course the dual drum parking brakes seem to be a lot of unnecessary weight?
Thoughts?
Bruce

First, look further up in this thread - brake calipers (aluminum lithium, etc.), brake lines and titanium brake line brackets are done. Second, Brembo CCM-R carbon disks are excellent but not yet available in 911R size. Third, is there real, quantitative evidence of Surface Transforms product giving noticeably better performance? Fourth, am using Pagid RSC-1 pads; do you have a better idea? Fifth, hats (bells) could be remade in a different aluminum but, given requirements of heat resistance and strength (including re parking brake), the savings might be quite be minimal (though they might look nicer). Sixth, as to the parking brake, it is a safety item but it might be possible to reduce a bit of weight but do you want to sacrifice potential safety? Seventh, one could eliminate the parking brake system entirely and, possibly, install a line lock on the rear brakes. Of course, this is assuming that the electronic systems would allow and not constantly ring and/or flash lights, let alone disable. And, additionally, so as not to ruin the aesthetics of the interior, you would need to find a safe, convenient and discreet (i.e., hidden) place to install the line lock and concomitant new metal lines (inside the center console?).

I do believe there is data to support better performance, Gavin at Autoquest (https://www.autoquestcars.com/custom-11) could point you in the correct direction, US Distrib., or you could go direct to https://surfacetransforms.com/. I only looked at anecdotal data. I did find this "Operating temperatures approximately 200 degrees lower than PCCBs", they must be able to back this up.
As always sterling work & I look forward to a 000 article at some point.

Three Wheelin'
Mr. Linton,
Not to hijack your beautiful and very informative thread on the 911R, it was very beautiful here today in Illinois.
Instead of shaving off weight on my 911R, I added about ten pounds worth of food items from Jewel Grocery store. The frunk luggage was more than enough to handle a couple of grocery bags.
Drive safe,

911R on grocery shopping duty. :-)

Carbon Fiber Front Shock Mounts with Removable Monoball (Uniball). Looking at doing another set that is camber adjustable.
P.S. Much to my surprise, the Instagram page (@RobertLinton1) has almost a 1000 followers which is 999 more than I expected. Even discussion about a YouTube channel (with no commercials/advertisements) focusing upon high level performance, weight reduction, interior and audio system upgrades/enhancements and with audience participation.

Not me, but maybe the cats. Did you notice that Number 5 Cat is running for President on the Cute Party Ticket? And, before anyone says anything funny, I only have two (shelter) cats.

Carbon Clutch with Titanium Basket (housing) for the 911R. Weight saving is approximately 19 pounds of rotating weight on the engine. This, together with the new titanium rods, lightweight and high temperature pistons, titanium aluminide wrist pins, lightweight crankshaft with tungsten counterweights and titanium aluminide valves (changed from "mere" titanium), will reduce rotating weight upon the engine by approximately 28 pounds.
P.S. All of 911R upgrades and more can be seen on Instagram @RobertLinton1.
