Why the skepticism with 991.2 RS availability? Did I miss the production memo? Is there hard data to suggest Porsche will build fewer than the 991.1s?
I can see the GT2s all being scooped up by the VIPs, but there are plenty of .1 RS' in the driving gloves of non-VIP'ers.

There is zero reason to suspect they won't limit the crap out of a 991.2 GT2 RS like they do all of their other highly sought after cars. The 997.2 GT2 RS is going well over $350k+ used now and the new one will be even better.
But you can order all you want of the regular 911, Cayman, Boxster, Macan, Cayenne, Panamera, etc....yay...

GT3RS cannot hang with a well-driven LT. Massive straight line differential for a start. If "winning" a Track day is not the be all and end all, I still think the GT cars have more going for them overall. The 2RS will be a win, win ;-)
I don't think the 2RS will be numbered, but will be limited availability due to production capacity.
The 918 program is only an issue in US, but still means that a few hundred will be spoken for early. In the U.K. At least, Porsche is definitely looking to weed out flippers now, and it is retrospective.
Of course, the question is, how many of the demand is actually driven by the limited status, and how many would drop off the list if everyone could actually get one!
I don't know the answer, but I do know there is always going to be a long line when they're giving away free money, and that fights will break out in the line, if the money's in short supply!

That's the issue - the market has changed dramatically, if likely temporarily. (It's even been hinted by other manufacturers that not all 918 were made, but I don't know if that's true; let's assume it's not.)
Whatever, they were available for years at list, and it took VIP prog to sell them in the US, because most buyers, me included (non-VIP prog, UK) expected the cars to depreciate like the CGT. We thought we'd lose a considerable sum of money for the enjoyment of owning one - remember those days??

All of the GT cars are individually restricted, but add up the numbers of all the variants and there are multiple times what was available in the past.

Footsoldier, you make a very interesting point. How many of us would buy our six figure Porsche GT cars if EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM were guaranteed to be worth 50% in 4 years???? Normal depreciation on a normal performance car.
I'm thinking you would have a TON of people drop off the lists. Honestly, including me too. One of the joys of getting to own a GT4 for 1.5 years and 8k miles was being able to get almost all of my money back.
I dont think I'd buy a 991.2 GT3 for $170k if I was going to eat $85k of depreciation in 4 years. I could absorb it as I'm sure many others on this board can, but it wouldn't be that much fun. I'd rather get 20% off a new Grand Sport Vette so $64k new ($80k sticker) beat on it for a few years and sell it easily for $40k. $24k depreciation, no biggie.
So, I think the demand for Porsche GT cars is artificially high because buying one is a no brainer. You won't lose much, if any, money and HECK, you might even MAKE money selling it. Insane.
Musical chairs. When will the music stop and when will a lot of people be left holding the bag on a normal depreciating GT car? Maybe in the next few years? Maybe never? Guess a lot of it depends on the global economy and the production schedule Porsche will adhere to for the next several years on the GT cars.

Same thing I said! I don't understand it. Drive it around a corner then sell it. But then again the Ferrari guys do the same thing.

Echoing GL and some others on the LT vs RS thing...the LT is way faster. The RS is more approachable to 85% because of extra tire size and rear steering but the LT driven well only falls victim to the viper ACR-E or P1/918 (never seen a LaFerrari on a track day). Getting 98-100% out of any car is a real challenge.
There are a lot of magical club tracks where one car beats everything but for legit big professional racing tracks like COTA, Road Atlanta, etc the LT is faster than the RS because it will hit 10-15MPH higher trap speeds and higher acceleration out of corners. It's 150-250lbs lighter and 170 more HP.
That being said- the GT2RS seems geared at killing the ACR's track dominance or more price wise: the SuperMarioCippolini Arabiatta Lambo.
There will be a lot of comparisons about the 285k lambo and 290k GT2RS. Head to head. Here come the headlines:
