Default MANUAL transmission enthusiasts: 991.2 GT3 manual, or GT3 RS PDK if forced to choose?

Hey guys,

Current 997.2 GT3 RS, and F430 spider manual transmission owner. Love, love, love the manual transmission. No matter how many DCT cars I drive, I just can't get into it due to less involvement with the car.

I put a deposit down on both the 991.2 GT3 and RS versions in 2014 so I will probably easily get either car according to an update from my dealer. Love the RS, it's looks, and top dog status in the 911 lineup. Forced between the two, which one will you ultimately acquire?

I drove my friend's 991 GT3 and absolutely loved it, but knew after an hour behind the wheel I would be bored and would want to row my own gears.

I'm leaning strongly for the 911 GT3 simply for the manual transmission. What do you guys that have deposits on both plan to do when the day comes? I want the looks of the RS, but ultimately the manual transmission wins me over. Time will tell...

I guess you've already answered your own question. You should get the GT3 with MT. If it was me, probably the same.

Agree. Will have to take the GT3 with the manual. Heard from my dealer that on the next generation I would as of now, if nobody drops off the list, probably get the GT3RS before the he GT3. More people on the GT3 list because of the option for the manual.

Manual please! Your buying this car for the experience and not lap times. Feel more in control. Who likes to be told how it's done? Be your own and be in control. PDK is like a bitch slapping you and telling you how it's done. And learn how to heel and toe. There is nothing like the throttle blip, heel and toe.

Manual please. Don't give a śhit about lap times. Nothing beats the skill of driving a manual in the fun factor.

1) everyone around here talks about 991.2 gt3 as a given that it will be a manual, which its not. We won't know that for quite some time. And don't quote me AP/cleaning lady said "blah, blah, blah" because I can show you 2 dozen contradictory quotes and half that ended up being lies. On one hand it seems ludicrous they would develop the manual for R and not offer it in gt3. On the other hand it seems ludicrous the only thing that really makes R special is manual, only to pimp out that same manual in a mass produced gt3 a few months later. Who knows????

2) an RS is an RS. If you get a shot to build/buy any RS, do it. If you hate it later, you will have zero problem reselling it and likely for at least, if not more than you bought it. It's sounds like you have a few manuals to choose from already like a lot of us.

I don't think you can assume most of the people in the 991 GT3 forum would choose a manual. I certainly wouldn't, and have met many other owners in person, and I think most would choose PDK as well. Keep in mind, most of the people in these threats tend to be trolls who just look for threats to bash the PDK.

I actually feel if Andreas Preuinger says it, there's probably at least a 90% chance it will be become fact.

Maybe I should buy the GT3 and GT3 RS and then sell one down the road. Certainly an option as well.

If we have production around 4000 units of the GT3, I'm counting on probably 400-1000 (10-25%) being manuals. There's only a 12% take rate on manuals with the 991 generation.

That sounds about right, as the M4 (from what little info I can find) only has a 17% rate for manuals.

That's why real numbers on something like the M4 are so telling. BMW enthusiasts are just as serious about "proper" transmissions, they have overwhelmingly spoken with their wallets.
