AP hints again at a manual 991.2 GT3
#61
But when you look at hp/lb, the old 911R was .12. The new R is .17, so it might weigh more, but it packs more of a wallop per pound! I'd say it's a 'modern lightweight'.

AP, I know you're reading. If you want to continue building emotional cars, keep a 6sp manual in the GT3. Plenty of people don't care for PDK. And make enough of them so that we don't run into RS price-bidding shenanigans.

I disagree that 991.2 GT3, whether PDK-S or manual if they offer it, will cause 991.1 GT3 to take a hit.... The 991.1 GT3 with PDK-S will be special and hold value well over time because it will be the only 9000rpm Porsche. It's sound is intoxicating and is true race car, and the PDK-S suits its personality well. The engine warranty issues won't be a problem because the problem engines were replaced and warranties extended on the new ones to 5yrs for good measure, and many have since been CPO'd to 6yrs/100kmiles.
GT4 will be forever special, too, as best ever Cayman, and has relatively limited production too. It was also underpriced for what it is. It's doubtful Porsche will repeat its unique combination of larger NA engine, manual transmission, best-of-GT3 running hear, and perfect styling.
911R will be the ultimate manual tranny Porsche ever due to its underpinnings, super limited production and cool sleeper styling v 911 GT variants. Reminds me of the ultimate incarnation of the 50th Anniv 911.

Sort of like playing American Football. The risk of concussion or CTE is always present, you can minimize it, but can't eliminate it. But people still play the sport because it's so damn intoxicating.

Not sure why some relate 991 and 997 platforms as though they'll be essentially the same car if only a manual is in both. It's like saying a 993 Turbo values will drop because a 991.2 carrera 4 is also getting turbos, is AWD, and will turn faster laptimes at the ring.
We all know what drives collector car values...it's about rarity, desirability, and provenance. 997 RS, especially the 4.0 and 3.8 will be the very last of the analog RS (when a manual was the ONLY option ) with a motor that was tied to actual Motorsports campaigns at that time.
Oh btw, the 997 also has a shorter wheelbase and without the help of such high tech componentry of a 4 wheel steering and all the computer programming that comes with it, the old car is less nimble at turn-in while retaining the archaic chassis dynamics of a - gasp - 911! As a result the 997 RS will turn slower laptimes than a 991 RS, but that's okay because it is honest.
The 997 RS is the zenith of that era within the 911 evolution. The 991 is just a different car and it will forge its own history.

^^^^The turbo is/has been tested in GT3 and RS forms. Whether that is the new motor is up to the PAG board and not AP. The .2 was originally scheduled for Geneva release on the roadmap over 2 years ago. Something changed. Only time will tell.
